Misc rate my business competition's products

Concrete DiY weights. This is what i'm up against. I do like one guy who has some kind of rubber coating around it.
i could purchase rubber strips and somehow try to super glue it. What you guys think? Not sure what he uses or how he attaches it.

Some guy is asking $120 for this ''60'' lbs barbell.

I'd put some thicker rubber strips around the edge than your competitor has. There is a tire store in my town. Any person can go there and they'll give you used inner tubes from tires that go on farm implements. Put several layers on there so that they are noticeably thicker than your competition.

btw, I'm self employed and I like the way you hustle like I hustle.

What do you think the costs will be? Some online stores sell thin rubber strips. 30 feet for $15.
I could cover a decent amount of plates with that. And up the price because of it. but it's only half an inch thick.

I'm all in for improving my product, but in the end profit is the main goal. So i can't make them too expensive if the customer isn't willing to pay for the price increase.
Also what would the best way to attach these onto said weights? Just glue it?

I didn't see yours, just your competitors. Do a rubber strip on the edge and I think you'll be hands down better than your competition.

My competition is motel rooms. $400 a week gets a person a room with 2 beds. $400 a week from me gets a furnished 2 bedroom place with a kitchen, washer/dryer, cable/wife and rooms decorated like Hugh Hefners mansion.

Curious - what is your acceptable margin for error on the actual weight? 5%?

Also, you need to brand yours. Come on, brah. Lifters love brands and anyone buying bootleg concrete plates from some random dude on craigslist is a hard dude.

I personally wouldn't want to waste time with coatings that don't actually accomplish anything, but truck bed liner might be an option to try.

I'll order it and offer an upgraded version for a slightly higher price if a customer prefers it. it should pay for itself since a rubber strip is cheap.
Just have to figure out how to attach it.

Your 2 bedroom place sounds like a house! Definitely a great improvement.

My weights are almost always the desired weight. Maybe 50-100 grams off at most. Once you know the formula of adding extra concrete, the loss of water evaporation weight gets countered and the weights come out right each time.

As for the brand, you mean like a logo? I don't know where i could paint it on the weights to make it look better. Also less painting is less hassle for me.
I do have a ''brand'' account username, but that one sells less than my other backinthegymbro username.

Right now mine don't have any coating, rubber or anything. It's just plain concrete that's painted. So i think some kind of cover should be nice.
    Thanks for the reply! Repped.

Yes. I would suggest using Liquid Nails General construction adhesive. Around $4 for a standard tube that fits in a caulk gun. You can probably do 6-8 of your 5kg plates with one tube. Epoxy is overkill.

Yeah people love brands more than anything. At least get a stencil made and shoot it with some hi vis yellow traffic paint or something.

Thanks a lot for your replies! You know your tools. I'll have to try and buy some. In worst case scenario, i'm down $20. So it's worth a shot.
The place you rent out looks amazing! How did you acquire it? Did you wage slave until you saved up enough to buy real estate and rent it out? That's one of my dreams. Those definitely have a lot more to offer than a single room.

FWIW, when I was first starting, I got a logo package on fiverr for <$50. It was surprisingly professional, most people can't believe how good it was for the price.

Instead of glue, what if you were to drive screws that sit flush into the rubber, cover with tape, incorporate into concrete pour mold, profit???

That might be great! I think the tricky part is lining the rubber band exactly around the edge of the mold. Maybe i can use some adhesive tape and then just remove it after i take the whole thing out. The only downside is that there will be screw heads in certain areas of the bands, which will touch the floor whilst lifting. And of course the added costs of said screws. Not sure how many i'd have to put in to keep it secured tightly.

    Love your creativity.

Dumb luck. I had a rental house that would bring in $350 (srs) a month when it was rented. I was recently married and my wife was selling her house. Had to sign some papers with a realtor for them to sell it. Asked the realtor how much they rent out houses to refinery contractors. They said up to $1000 a week.

So my wife and I moved a bunch of her furniture to my vacant house and I started getting $800 a week for it. This lasted for 2 months. They moved out. Within 30 minutes some of their friends wanted it. They stayed for 2 months and moved out. Within 60 minutes their friends called and wanted to rent it. Then we did a 2nd house. Then a 3rd house.........then a 23rd house. Wife quit her job and now she just cleans them between occupancies.

Not sure how many i'd have to put in to keep it secured tightly.

Alternatively, you could potentially find rubber thick enough to enable you to drive some type of screws through the rubber in the other direction, and maybe even rework the mold to have a ring of rubber exposed. That'll allow for fully anchored rubber and no screws would show. It might take a few iterations of design to get there

The houses are better than what most peoples personal residences are. Do you have a kegorator in your big house? Horse shoe pit or fire pit in a medium sized house? Can you recoup the purchase price of a house with 6 months of gross rent? It feels good to be what you call a slum lord. Nobody that lives in this town can afford to stay in one of my places. If you work on the road, you've found a gold mine place to stay.

I guess i could just cut out some tiny bits of rubber and glue that on the screw heads to cover it.

My only 3 concerns are: Will the rubber fit perfectly in the mold? Will the rubber stay tight around the entire weight? How many screws will i need?
Unfortunately i can't adjust the molds themselves since they're just buckets.
I think i'll give it a shot and see what happens. These things always take trial and error to figure out. I appreciate the tip a lot!

Listen to the guy that’s telling you to brand it.

Go and get some $5 logo off fiver, anything, just get some kind of logo on there.

Branding is the most important thing, you make a quality product, a brand let’s people know you stand behind your product.

fiddiing with the rubber strip sounds like a waste of time and effort, your weights look high quality srs, especially compared with your comp. would be an easy choice for me.

if you must use rubber, id go with a liquid polyurethane and just have a second mold for the dried concrete with a gap around the edge to pour the liquid rubber
