You seem impressed by how much he squat. Let's not give belt usage, or not, too much credit here.
So you don't know anything about his training regime, or even if he has trained/trains with a belt?
Are you aware that very strong people say incorporating a belt into their training makes them stronger than if they had not, including raw strength?

So now there's some arbitrary number below which a belt does not serve the same utility that it does to somebody stronger?
At what weight does a belt suddenly become useful?
BTW: Nobody needs a belt, just like nobody needs lifting shoes, or chalk, or straps, or even needs to lift
