Awesome set up you have! Quick questions- one, how do you like the Power-Lift cable system and what brand is the lat pull down? Thanks

The spud econo pulley is nice. Now you will have to sit on the ground to do lat pull downs. But it's made well and gets the job done on a budget. If you plan on using a ton of weight with it you may want to got with a real pulldown but this is just fine for around 4 45 plates which is the highest I used. Plus I weigh 275 so it won't pull me up

The Power-Lift functional trainer is awesome. You can do so many exercises. I opted for 300 lb. stacks and it has a reduction of 2:1 so the most I can row is 150lb....but... I built a slip in weight horn to add as much as I can handle. There is no weak point as the cable would be rated very high. I never thought I would like a functional trainer because I was used to the big crossover systems but I love this thing and the footprint isn't too big.
I picked up that Life fitness lat pull used. It is a very smooth unit but it is a pretty old one. Not sure what the new ones are like. Thanks for the compliment on my set up!

Thanks. I always said that if I were to have one piece for versatility, that would be it. Then I had to put my money where my mouth was. Still waiting on a Chin-Dip-Ab and a landmine.

Debating if I'm ready to stop garaging my car and get Squat rack, leg press, leg curl. I might be able to fit it by getting a trailer for our motorcycles.

One vote for a power rack at least, then leg curl, lastly leg press.

Functional trainers are awesome! I am in the same boat as you debating whether to try and take over the entire garage. I did pick up a Hammer pullover which takes up part of the space for the car but I am not too worried with it not being winter here in Iowa. I would love to have a combo leg curl leg extension.

This equipment is all still pretty new. I am LOVIN hitting chest (after free weights) with the seated utility bench and the cable cross.

I haven't had a home gym in over twenty years.

Malve1, great set-up you have there. I'm in the same boat, I've been lifting pretty hardcore for over 25 years and just now started building a home gym and I love it. It's great to walk 20 feet and be able to get a great workout in. Should've done this years ago!

    My Home Gym

I have been building my home gym for about a year now. It has been a fun project. I would say I that I have amassed a pretty good gym in that amount of time. My favorite piece of equipment is my Yoke (not shown below). I would have started doing this sooner but my wife and I did not have a garage.

Because of my passion for training and wanting to build my home gym, I started a company that delivers functional equipment, apparel, and full size supplements on a monthly bases. The equipment are things like foam rollers, abmats, Kettle bells, but it helps you build up the small equipment that you can take anywhere. (sorry for the plug). strengthcrate.com

    Tony:

You ain't kidding. I had mixed feelings about making the switch and it has FAR exceeded my expectations and has been a great catalyst for new found motivation. Never thought my work outs would be feeling better and better at 46.

I'm finishing muscle in like 40% of the time and thinking..."Sh#!, do I really do that much waiting for equipment? Or is it that I'm not gabbing to all my gym friends?" I can tell you that all my gym peeps would def. say the latter.

My wife was lifting last week and after a pee break, I asked her. "Seriously....How much easier and faster and nicer is it to take a leak at our gym?". She laughed and was like.."Totally!!!".

Everything else is better too. I can be a bit of a gym snob and now its my TV, my music, cabinet full of fresh towels and water bottles, great lighting, brand new equipment sans anyone else's sweat and the list goes on and on.

One of my FAVORITE things about my home gym is every handle/attachment etc., in a designated spot (see pic) and always right where it is supposed to be. We all know what it's like to have to walk away from a machine to go looking for a handle only to worry if someone is gonna take it while you are on your scavenger hunt.

Nice gym Malve1, needs a power rack ASAP, but looks like you have some high quality pieces to start! I don't think I could ever go back to the commercial gym, and if I did I would probably only do it temporarily to get a change of pace. My favorite aspect of my home gym is that EVERY single piece is hand selected by ME for quality and feel, not because its the only brand that the commercial gym decided to buy.

That, and I love being able to pre-setup my gym for the next workout, getting everything into position so that I can move effortlessly from one movement to the next. Like you my workout times have significantly decreased from roughly 90 minutes to about 60 minutes. And you no longer have to re-plan your workout mid-session because some gym rat decided to make a home in the squat rack for 30 sets of 10 @ bodyweight, while standing on a bosu ball. Oh, and texting in between those sets LOL.

One of my biggest motivating factors for setting up my home gym was the fact that I could set the channel on the TV or the music on the radio to whatever I wanted. As somewhat of a sports junkie, I often workout during games I want to watch (rather than just laying on the sofa). Its not that I have to see every play -- glances between sets and listening are often good enough. I just got tired of the gym showing different events / channels and missing some games while having to listen to techno funk...

The other issue was the 20+ min drive one-way. Just enough to be a barrier after a rough day, or its late, or the weather sucks, or...

A rack, some weights, and a set of powerblocks solved both of those issues. And I haven't gone back in >12 years.

Finally upgraded from my home made boobytrap setup that I posted back on page 183-ish

Made it to poverty-gym level. As is apartment life. Super jelly of you blokes who have double-garages to turn into mancaves

No bench yet. Floor is still a solid bench

Good thing there's a never ending supply of tv shows to throw on

Thanks for embedding my pics Clive.

Ha! I thought someone might pick up the M250. We live on a bit of land, and the gym is in a shed we’ve converted. The M250 is for the electric fence around the property.

I love the Titan, it’s one of the best things I’ve brought. I’ve had it for 7 years now, and I can honestly say it’s been a fantastic investment. Exercise wise, there really isn’t much it doesn’t do. This is great when trying to fit in as many exercise options as you can in a limited space.

    Squat rack

Decided to go with a traditional squat rack over a "power rack". I'm still waiting on my chin-dip-ab so I'll have that for chins etc. I like the wider set up compared to a power rack so that I can bench press and more.

Wider space? There's no difference in width between a squat rack and a power rack.

You can have 6'X8' pieces of mirror delivered for $250 each. This set me back around $800 and change for two pieces installed professionally. This included two cutouts for the light switch and an outlet at $50 a pop. Considering the overall cost of the project, I feel it was reasonable.
