Why do some people object to UBI IF we cut down spending on other areas?

I am a moderate, most certainly not a liberal. I thought the idea of UBI, made popular by Andrew Yang, was crazy too. I then did some research and watched his interview with Joe Rogan. I was convinced.

Yang also wants to cut spending in OTHER areas to make up for this difference.

Also unlike other ways of helping the working class, such as tax hicks on business, increasing minimum wage, mandated healthcare etc. this does NOT effect the balance basic accounting formula (assets=liabilities+owners equity) in business.NO new liabilities are created by giving everyone an extra thousand. Business will do BETTER with UBI. IF we cut back on welfare, military , foreign aid, food stamps etc. we can make this work.It works in the richest nation on earth, Qatar, which gives its citizens free money It works in the richest nation on earth, Qatar, which gives its citizens free money. Same with Alaska

The cost of UBI in America is 3 trillion dollars, the current entire military budget is 700 Billion. After we eliminate the entire military, where should we cut to make up the other 2.3 trillion?

UBI is guaranteed to devalue all savings and destroy the middle class.

UBI doesn't even make sense. Poor people get enough subsidies and exemptions from the government. The extra money they'll receive from UBI will just go towards frivolous spending. There are only a select few who truly will benefit from UBI, but I rather support the majority rather than the minority.

Ok, so we eliminate the military, eliminate all other welfare and add a 10% value added tax which he estimates will generate 800 billion.

Almost there, where do we get the other 900 billion?

A 10% VAT on top of all existing sales taxes? Hard pass...

Edit: this is assuming that the institution of a UBI wouldn't destroy the value of savings and replace the middle class with a bunch of perpetual poors... which it will.

UBI is based off of ignoring basic human behavior.

    4. We currently spend over one trillion dollars on health care, incarceration, homelessness services and the like. We would save $100 – 200 billion as people would take better care of themselves and avoid the emergency room, jail, and the street and would generally be more functional. Universal Basic Income would pay for itself by helping people avoid our institutions, which is when our costs shoot up. Some studies have shown that $1 to a poor parent will result in as much as $7 in cost-savings and economic growth.
    That's a pretty big assumption.

Decades of research on cash transfer programs have found that the only people who work fewer hours when given direct cash transfers are new mothers and kids in school. In several studies, high school graduation rates rose. In some cases, people even work more. Quoting a Harvard and MIT study, “we find no effects of [cash] transfers on work behavior.”

In our plan, each adult would receive only $12,000 a year. This is barely enough to live on in many places and certainly not enough to afford much in the way of experiences or advancement. To get ahead meaningfully, people will still need to get out there and work.

Immigration into the united states is already out of control, you don't think free money would compound the issue even further?

Thanks for the thread, OP. My time is up at the library.

The gov't never offsets new costs. Would never happen in the case of UBI either.

Also, I'd be open to considering it if, and only if, it served as a full replacement for every federal assistance program (welfare, WIC, etc). This also would never happen.

Because when UBI is still not enough to feed LaQuisha and her 5 kids they will try and bring back other entitlement programs and it will explode.

We can’t even fund social security properly let alone an ongoing fund.

What about the other consequences such as increased immigration specifically to LEECH off the system when it goes into place?
