    McMaster Carr UHMW Question...

I'm looking to line/cover the contact points on the J-cups and safety spotter arms on a Rogue SML-1 (both the inner J-cups and spotter arms lining and the edge of the J-cups and safety spotter arms).

What various thickness UHMW adhesives will I need to purchase for each one respectively and how much of it will I need? Thanks in return for some insight on the selection(s) to remedy these issues.

For the inner parts of attachments that contact your posts super thin is fine. I use the ones with the self adhesive from McMaster. For the j cups go thicker for the vertical portion that your bar contacts. The thinner pieces have deformed over time. Just measure out length for each section and get a total. I think I have my receipt in my gym for one of my orders and can look for it tomorrow. I posted the list once but couldn’t find with google search. Will keep looking.
Edit: Found pic had it saved on iPad.

I appreciate this info, my girlfriend recently bought the SML-1, plates and a cerakote lime green Ohio Bar (she's looking to get the Rogue Adjustable 3.0 bench at some point too), so we're looking to keep the bar somewhat decent since Rogue misses out on covering some contact points.

When putting in the selection of pieces they only give me the options of 5ft pieces and beyond to choose from, not sure why...I might have to contact them to see if they can cut shorter strips of them.

Edit: unfortunately they only sell each of the strips I need in 5ft minimum when I contacted them about it. It totaled out to just over $100 before shipping and tax, not sure if it's worth having that much of it at that price would like the peace of mind of the coverage for the bar and rack protection though...

It's obviously not ideal, but I covered my bar with clear vinyl tubing from the hardware store to protect my barbell. Years ago I scratch built J-cups for my bench and I didn't know about UHMW at the time, so I welded stainless strips into place at the contact points (to prevent the painted steel from chipping) and later figured out that covering the bar was my only (simple) option. Just a thought.

Also, Amazon sells UHMW in sheets (though you'd have to cut the material with a saw or ????).

Utility knife and a straight edge works. It's not hard, it's just tough and slick.
I had a sheet of 3/8" a few years ago that we got to use as a hockey shooting pad. Was 2'x3'.
I checked though and I couldn't find it anymore. Sorry DVO. Would have given it to you. I'll look in a few more places later, but I think we gave it to my son's friend after my son had to stop playing.

    1/32" between attachments and uprights.
    1/4" where bar contacts.

I've only used 1/4" and 1/2" thick material and I went straight for the little Dremel Max saw I have to cut it with. I had quite a few cuts to make to each sheet, so it was a time saver for me. I just wasn't sure if DVO had access to a saw or not, depending on the thickness of material needed.

Thanks Mech, I messed up thinking I needed more when I just needed one of each in 5ft and to measure and cut the strips I need for coverage.

The total is much more tolerable now after correcting that mix up lol.

Edit: I'm having a difficult time finding the exact material in 1/4" thick, you can link the direct one from the site in 1/4" thick I'd appreciate it.

I have some thin material on my j cups and it’s held up fine. On the upright portion of the j cup I have 1/8. Don’t think you need 1/4.

For the SML I'd get 2-1/2" or 3" wide, depending how you want it to look:

Thanks everyone for the help, I landed up ordering the 5ft 1/32" 3" wide and two 1ft 1/4" 3" wide...I'm thinking that should be enough and any extra I could save for my rack should I ever need any.

Here's my DIY UHMW J cup pads..... Cut these with a chop saw and they came out perfect. Adhesion is very good so far. We'll see how it works out. This is 2" x 1/8" UHMW from McMaster.

I received the 1/4" UHMW today, but might've described the description wrong on here without a pic...needed the adhesive kind for the front lip of the J-cups and safety spotter arms (which Rogue lacks in those areas). I guess I could cut the 1/4" strip and apply hot glue if anything.

As for the backs if the J-cups and spotter arms, I received the 1/32" adhesive UHMW too.

As for the backs if the J-cups and spotter arms, I received the 1/32" adhesive UHMW too.
1/4" won't come with adhesive. Use 3M VHB tape to glue it down if you don't want to use screws.
