I managed to get Son #2 out this week - here's a couple of pictures of our better catches.
The first is a Crucian Carp (Carassius carassius) taken on vintage tackle with a traditional method.
The second is a clonking Perch - my son thought he'd hooked the bottom at first until it decided to swim off in the opposite direction!
Thanks for looking.
Tight lines.

I just had PRK eye surgery so fishing/swimming/water sports was out for about 3 weeks. This is my last week on restriction. I'm hitting the water soon.

Generally speaking non game fish are not taken for the table (all catch and release) in the UK unlike in Eastern Europe where is it the norm - back in WWII however there was a fairly significant perch canning operation on Lake Windermere. The canned perch were marketed as "Perchines" and used as a substitute for Sardines. As a child I remember passing a fishmongers on the way to the canal to fish with my father which had 2 windows - one side was all sea fish and the other was all freshwater fish which was quite unusual and I remember stopping to admire the size of some of the fish on the slab for sale. I've eaten bream in Russia but that's the only freshwater fish I've eaten, so no expert.
(EDIT - that reads like I was a child in WWII which I wasn't, the fishmongers I recall would have been in the early 80's!)

Had to use up some worms that were probably going to die in a week or two, so I went fishing at a local lake. Got a bunch of bluegill. One was the thickest 9" bluegill I ever seen. He swallowed the hook, but I got it out without hurting him so I let him go so he could breed. Also got a thick 8.5" bluegill that probably wouldn't have made it, so I kept him. Also kept 5 smaller ones that would've died on release. Probably caught about 25. Didn't take pics since I was lazy.
Downside is that there's a ton of construction around here now, so getting to my favorite fishing spots is not easy.{Misc Fisherman Crew}

caught about 30 bass on Saturday. 13 fish between 6-7am. The rest scattered throughout the morning before lunch (tri-tip, potatoes and home grown veggies) and in the afternoon before sunset. Best day of kayak fishing in my life. High elevation lake abotu 1.5 hours from my house. My citys temps are about 100, this place, high of 82, hnnnnnnnnnngh.
Tempted to go back out this weekend.
Dont know why they uploaded so big but heres 3 of them, didnt take pictures of every single fish..
this one had a messed up gill, not from me, my hook was in the corner of the mouth. but it was a hearty, healthy fish regardless.

I hope everyone got out over the Labor Day weekend and got to lean on some giants.
Got out with my Uncle yesterday and had a hell of a day. Biggest 5 went 18.5lbs. Could have been bigger but my Uncle lost a giant at the boat.
Left to right: 5.04lbs, 4.15lbs, 3.35lbs

Tamarack crew checking in. I have a fish finder I mount with plumbers putty when going to new lakes. Also use a foam pad cuz the original one ripped off. i got a stadium seat but its not solid and always a hassle using it. .. SO I am thinking of getting a new one next spring with a better seat.
Here is a link. Basically the same chit.
CONS: no hull storage. PROS: Built in seat and built in gear tracks.

Got out over the holiday weekend for a short bit. Haven't gotten any big cats this year but got a nice little double. 26lbs and some change and a 19lbs blue. Doesn't take long to destroy cleaned carpet with asain carp jumping in the boat getting blood everywhere followed by catfish slime.

went out after work and caught 11 bass in 3 hours at my honey hole. Biggest fish were on top water. This place is in the mountains and when the snow falls I wont be able to get there. So i been hitting it as much as possible.
