Yeah, but it was made with "heavy" web material so that makes is safe

The times they are a changin'. I remember the 69 Impala that we had when I was a kid. The backseat hand rest had an ASH TRAY! And speaking of ash trays, what did nearly every kid make for his dad for their pottery project in the early 70's? That's right: ASH TRAYS. I use mine to this day as a coin holder

Cars used to be marketed like just an extension of your living room. When I was a kid we used to run around the back seat and goof off. Now they're treated more like a space shuttle with all kinds of advanced safety features and pre-flight protocols. It's unthinkable now that a kid would be allowed to run free in the back seat or cargo area.

Yup, when I was a kid, we rode in the back of an open bed pickup truck on the highway.

Truly done if the best car rides ever were in the back of a pickup on the backroads where we lived. Of course, we did it in town too. No one cared. It was just the way it was.

Where I live, it is still widely practiced. But never in town.

Bought a low mileage 98 caddy DeVille for my daily work driver. First time my son got in the back he asked what the ash trays were. Fukkers still had lighters in them which I had to remove so he didn't catch my car on fire.

Growing up we had a station wagon with backwards facing rear seat, conversion van where the seats lined the sides of the van, a Dodge ram charger with two doors that got about 8mpg but could handle anything northwest PA winter's could throw at it, and a truck that my brother and I would ride in the bed of on short trips to town. Miss them all

I remember when there was a campaign and law to enforce seat belt use in the front of cars (the back seats didn't have belts) how many people objected, and the debate if they were dangerous because you wouldn't be thrown clear in a crash

I remember riding in the open bed of a pick up truck all the way from Boston to Pennsylvania when I was 10 or so. It was a single cab pick up, so there was no room for me or the dog I rode with .

I didn't mind it at all since it was summertime...except when getting stuck in crawling traffic going through parts of NYC when it was still ghetto...during those parts I just laid down in the back so nobody could see me .

    I don't understand the thread...

what do automobile features and safety have to do with snowflakes? also snowflakes it such a stupid phucking term IMO. Intellectually lazy.

BTW cars were extremely unsafe through the 60s until Ralph Nadar wrote Unsafe at Any Speed which prompted almost every state to enact seatbelt laws which have saved tons of lives since widespread implementation

I have a 54 Chevy 3100. Its been redone but just lap belts added. I recently picked up one of my kids from school in it, and while talking to a parent at pickup, she asked me about the truck. She then told me she would be too nervous to have her child ride in a vehicle like that w/o airbags and a shoulder belt :boggle:. I told her the truck weights about 5k, I'd be more worried about the other vehicle than mine

Years ago I had a bird dog that I'd take with me on short trips in the bed of my truck. That too would be frowned upon although people have their dogs with them in the front . . . and often with their heads out of the driver's window while sitting on the driver's lap

We used to race to the car whenever we were going anywhere because whoever got there first got to lay up in the back window.

    Biggest culprits imho

    - women joining the workforce and letting kids be raised in daycares

    - progressive programs in school and other places softening people

    - parents having less kids so the kids don’t learn that the world doesn’t revolve around them(and parents coddling them since they only have 1-2 kids and don’t get as much time with the kids)

    - explosion in percentage and number of single parent homes

    - 24/7 news channels that made everyone think satanists/murderers/rapists were lurking around every corner
    +positive crew+
-we all gonna make it, but what it is is up to you crew
-all things in moderation, even political views crew
    -support local farms crew
-try to do at least one good deed/day crew
-less cursing the darkness and more lighting candles crew

Growing up I was convinced that if I was separated from my mom in the store someone was going to kidnap me, bring me into the bathroom, shave my head, kill me, and stuff me in a garbage can. My parents only watched the news on weekdays but it seems like there were more serial killers and weirdos in the 70s/early 80s than there are now.

BTW cars were extremely unsafe through the 60s until Ralph Nadar wrote Unsafe at Any Speed which prompted almost every state to enact seatbelt laws which have saved tons of lives since widespread implementation

The problem is the lack of critical thinking skills, not the ease of access. It isn't the story teller, but the audience that makes them famous....

It’s a combination of “loose facts” and an incredibly gullible population. The perfect storm of manipulation and a willingness to be manipulated.

In the old days, white guys used to flip out if a black guy took a dump in the "white people's" toilet. Before that, men regularly died in duels over "matters of honour." That is: someone would literally rather risk death than apologise over being a rude prick, or accept an apology from someone. Further back, people were burned at the stake for denying transubstantiation.

There have always been sensitive snowflakes. Always. And the over35 misc is a place where we mods see a lot the report button being hit. Not, perhaps, as hard to offend as you like to make out, kids. And when I neg you - and I will neg you - a good number of you will be whining to the admins about it. Taking the time to write a message complaining about little red and green squares on a message board. So put it back in your pants and go away and stroke it in private, you're not that manly and tough.

Lol....the last presidential election in America they had to shut down schools because too many students were too distraught to attend class. They delayed exams and had pizza parties. Trigger warning is a real term now. Microagression is a real term now. People cry about everything and call you “whateveraphobe” if you disagree with them. Anyone who doesn’t think people are more sensitive these days than ever before(and by a long shot) is either not paying attention or an idiot. Probably both.

So you added more content to your original post to try to supercede PV Sampson's post. A moderator discussing moderation. Discussion of moderation is not permitted on the site as it derails threads.

It's nothing to do with being manly and tough. Historic happenings have nothing to do with the social and political climate we are seeing today. Since you raised the point, the report button is used when there is a breach of forum rules, is it not?.. reconsider your position if you find it difficult or stop complaining if members use it. Incidentally, the resident troll will be reported if I find his/her rubbish shamelessly allowed to sit in threads of a more serious or respectful nature.
