For 5x5 is it better to progress top weights or stay at same for 5 sets?

Raw is at 605 and ready to push past but I’ve always done flat sets

You're a lot stronger than me but if I was goign to do something like ramping 5x5 I'd rather just work up in singles to a top set of 5 with backoff 5s after. I like sets across 5x5 for submaximal stuff though

I'm not a big fan of ramping sets. Its too hard to tell how hard a set of 5 should be. Was it hard because you are just more fatigued at that point, or was it harder because you added weight. It should be harder for both reasons, but figuring out exactly how hard it should be is too difficult for me.

I like top set and then back offs, or just same weight for all sets. Easier to judge fatigue and thus overall weekly volume.

Plus, I'll get more volume in doing the same weight. If I'm ramping, either the first few sets have to be low intensity, or the increases have to be quite small (in which case just do same weight).

You’re both probably right. I didn’t think there was a bonified better approach between the two and ramping does seem like **** can go wrong faster.

Definitely, I don't know how people can really pull off ramping all that well. I always found it was hard to screw up doing something like a top set of 5 then 10% less than that for a couple backoffs until the bar speed gets bad.

Nope, not really. But I haven't had much if any carryover from OHP to bench. So I haven't really dedicated any time to OHP in the past few years. Back when I was doing it, I was super weak so there wasn't much load to cause many problems.

My OHP is really bad now though. Its only like 40-45% of my bench.

Yeah I don't think it's ever done much for my bench but I have always liked doing it. But at this point I am just not gonna bother doing stuff that hurts when there is no reason for it.

Absolute game changer for me (bought it as I’m moving more towards strongman training, not sure if I’ll compete but the training is fun).

Cheap on amazon (Swiss bar, I’d get the neutral grips like above not the angled ones). If your not at a home gym maybe ask management to buy one and if that doesn’t work then maybe offer to buy one?...

I’d rack it when using it, they are awkward to clean (even more than a log). Make its made to fit in a rack (wide enough)

For whatever a noob opinion is worth.

Single @ rpe 8 every time (for comp lifts anyway). and then back offs of 3s, 4s, 5s or 6s seems to work great.

Lower stress week something like - 1@8, -15% for 4 sets of 5.
Higher stress week - 1@8, 3@9, -5% for 2 more sets of 3 or similar.

^ works for me anyway, and a lot of the strong competitors in my gym I've trained with seem to run very similar set ups

Got my log today. Never used one before but have just started using a smith bar (I posted a pic above). Easier to clean than the smith bar obviously.

Worked up to a set at 200lbs. Terrible clean that I really muscles through, and weak press. Was bummed out thinking that might be close to my limit. Next set I really worked for a fast powerful clean (try to get it up into my neck as hard as I can), was easy and the press was nothing. Went up to 220 and did 5 easy sets of one rep, just trying to work on how to breathe and positioning. All sets were pretty easy. I think I have 250+ in me once I get a little technique (BB push press was last tested at 285 but have done more overhead stuff lately ). Was also beltless.

    Lots of fun.

Lol I can bench 365 any day of the week, but that swiss bar destroys me. Can't even bench 135 with one of those lolol.
OHP makes my shoulders pop, I just do a very high incline bench. I also noticed the best way to increase your bench....

    is by bench pressing more.

I have a really crappy swiss bar, might invest in a better one soon. I'm just gonna not do any overhead stuff for a while. 2nd pressing day will just be CGBP for now.

This time. But they've been harassing people since at least 2015 (https://colemanstrongstrengthsystems...7/29/times-up/). And I don't remember if you saw that IG post from Barbara Lee in the middle of 2018, but apparently he physically assaulted her. She took the post down after awhile.

    Where was that gym???

Also, it seems that the stream isn’t on YouTube but $10 at https://officialstrongman.com/register. Sucks.
I’m confused as I thought I had read that it was going to be free on YouTube.
