well I did a fast count on one of the first days, so I'm sure I had a reasonable amount of calories on many of my days, but I've also been eating dirty food more easily now that I'm not cutting. I don't like the thought of counting cals everyday of my lifting career.

    ^^ This exactly.

You could have eaten as dirty as you wanted.. If you'd have kept it to like 200-500 above maint there wouldn't have been a problem.

Get an Iphone and get Tap and Track calorie calculator... Don't say it's too hard. I have OCD and i'm finding it p!ss easy this time around...

haha ofc I know "dirty" vs "clean" doesn't mean anything, that's why I used the "s on one of my posts. What I'm saying is I had a somewhat good count of an amount of clean food I ate, but then I would be with friends and have some junk food making it a good deal above maintenance etc.

I gotta say that this counting cals thing has been so effective that I feel completely useless without it now. I hear a good strategy for going ad libitum is to memorize the calorie counts of as much food as possible to the nearest 100 cals. Then you can just sort of keep a "rough" mental tab. Folks in the nutrition forum have apparently become savants at this although I'm not that good at it, yet.

I've cut 15 lbs in two months without counting a single calorie, just minimizing carbs and eating healthy. Lots of meat and meals in moderation.

    routine change

I think part of my problem last time was that I kept trying to make linear progress. Most people, when they cut, are willing to lose a little bit of muscle... because they have a lot more muscle than I do. I only wanted to lose as slow as I could continue to make gains.

I notice a lot of people losing weight are only trying to maintain or expect a strength drop of 10% or so (as per belmont316's advice). Meanwhile I was trying to make linear strength gains every single session.

So maybe I should just pick a more conservative routine so I can focus on fat loss and get this done with. Something where I either just maintain strength or make slower jumps, maybe something periodized. Any suggestions? Maybe a 5x5 or 5/3/1? I just want something where I know I'll be able to keep up with the routine despite the deficit.

Do you go low enough with the carbs to be in ketosis? Like an actual low-carb diet where you feel ****ty for a few days until you push past it? Or do you just try to avoid excess carbs? Also, what kind of cardio are you doing?

I'm always curious to hear how people manage to have success without counting cals, since I basically feel useless without it. And this is even after I switched over to generally "eating clean."

Yeah they can workout out how much they're eating with just grabbing a handful and knowing the weight/cals.

I went the route of Losing fat quickly without the care of muscle loss/strength loss. I've lost barely any strength and very little muscle and dropped plenty of fat.

Remember brah, muscle memory! However, another point that helped me make the decision was that I'm only 17 and even if I did lose muscle, I could gain it back relatively fast.

whats up cut brahs, got a few questions again

alright so I'm coming up on 10 weeks of cutting this Monday. started at 210.5 and today I am 189.5 (obviously like 5-8lbs of that was water since i also cycled off creatine when i started my cut) i was expecting to lose just 10-15 lbs and be satisfied but i'm still not as lean as I would have liked. I started at ~18% and I think i might be at ~13-14% now. My abs are starting to come through and i'm getting more vascular in my arms.

my question is.. will i see a much bigger difference from ~14% to 11%? i dont see much visual change from 18% to 14% and it's starting to piss me off.

btw i'm cutting at 2300 calories per day. i think im going to go til 185 and see how i look, then maybe continue to 180.

    this

Over 2 months I lost 18lbs and lost 2 inches off my waist. My gf is an NPC bodybuilder and she doesn't count calories and has won 8 1st place bb contests. Counting calories is fine but isn't the be all end all. I won't reveal my photos until a couple months from now but I will show you a series of pics from the beginning to the end.

it's hard to say... some parts of my body are pretty lean but my abs still suck

my plan is to keep cutting for another few days (burning off yesterdays horrible feast ), eat at maintenance for 1 week, and then not worry about my diet for 3 weeks (holiday in the US - can't wait). When I get back I'm gonna start my lean bulk (~200 cals above maintenance).

Hey guys and Insight, long time no see. Similar post to the one I made in the Bodyfat estimation thread (would be great to hear people's thoughts - http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...#post519309993).

Made some great progress recently following the advice given here. Essentially got my bodyfat estimated here at 13% a good while ago (see below), and decided to a bulk before the end of university. Bulked for about 7 weeks, then cut, mostly clean, but a good bit of junk here and there. Will be interesting to hear your views as to what my current bodyfat is, got the pics taken in ok lighting and are a bit blurry, not the best,Very happy with the way I look now, mostly aim to maintain the way I look now, with maybe a tad more cutting, followed by a slow-bulk, with a primary interest in strength training. For contrast, the 13% calculated pic is below.

Big thanks to Insight for the help given here.

No. He just needs to do 1000 situps a day for 10 days and his fat will mold itself into lean muscle tissue. It's science.
    Spike92 is 15.
^ place this in your sig to remind the world that Spike92 is indeed 15 and will never be anything other than 15.
