To those who take these pronouncements at face value, I would remind you of the intelligence briefings circa Iraq 2003, when we were treated to elaborate presentations with intelligence agencies, who we thought were credible, showing us doctored photos, fake human intel and just outright lying to the American people.

... and most people, like you, swallowed it all, hook line and sinker.

Use your brain. Does it make any sense at all that the Syrian regime would gas it's own people and sabotage themselves on the cusp of finally winning this war? No it's completely self-defeating, and if Assad's party has proved anything, it's that they are very shrewd survivors.

The Syrian government has come a long way from being on the brink of destruction to where they are today.
Still a lot of work to do in terms of warfare and an even bigger mission in the cleanup but I'm glad they're coming out of this looking like the victors.
