The Texas House passed a bill Thursday that would allow people to open carry handguns without a permit. If approved, it would make Texas the largest state in the nation to allow no-permit handgun carry.
The bill is advancing through the Texas legislature despite opposition from local police chiefs, who said it puts officers at risks and lets citizens carry guns without proper training and vetting.
The GOP-led state House passed the bill in 84-56 vote, mostly along party lines. More than 20 proposed amendments, mostly from House Democrats, failed to make it into the final legislation.
What do ya'll think about open carry without a permit for handgun owners?

The people who walk down the street, or into Wal Mart with an AR-15 on their backs just to get attention so they can spout “but Constitutional Carry bruh!!” are a problem.
But I understand why people who open carry a pistol on their hip because they don’t want to pay for the conceal carry, as they want to defend themselves and don’t want to pay for the “right” to do it.To resist despair

Bad idea, can you imagine every encounter that gets heated where people whip out their weapons. But..... Texas is gonna Texas as they say.

Hmmm....
I don't own a weapon, never have. (although not a hand gun, I miss my M14 )
Thinking about both sides of the debate (ahem...argument) I'm dead center sitting on the fence on this topic.
Would it be a deterrent from shvtheads preying on the vulnerable and reduce crime over the long term?
Would it allow those that are of the criminal element to more easily thrive further?
If I did desire to own a hand gun because of a not so safe living environment I would want the option to open carry to even my odds with the criminal element.
Having the option to defend one's self and/or family is paramount without federal paperwork determining my ability to do so.
Of course, I think that training on how to use any weapon would be necessary for all individuals.
Hell....I really don't know, maybe I'm speaking out of school.
But the police can't be everywhere, all the time, protecting all potential victims.
I'm sure those of you that own hand guns have lots of opinions that I may not have thought through and I'm just wasting bandwidth here.
I'll see what you gents think as this thread evolves.
Carry on....have a great weekend.Last edited by Wayne Evans; 04-17-2021 at 07:13 AM.

Well, you’re an idiot. I’ll stick to carrying concealed and maintain the element of surprise if I need to use my gun. I don’t have an issue with it being legal, it’s just not very smart. That is why I said I’m “personally” against it. If you want to OC and get popped in the back of the head by bad guy because he sees the gun on your hip, nothing of value would be lost, it is your constitutional right.

People often think about open carry as something like this:
One of the strongest arguments for open carry is simply that it shouldn't be a crime to have your shirt ride up while you're concealed carrying.
Is someone walking around with a gun on their belt and a shirt draped over it open carrying or concealed carrying? Should it be a crime depending on what percentage of the gun's holster is covered?
Usually, if people are open carrying a weapon exposed on their hip, it's because of emergencies. Walking around with a handgun exposed requires a heightened level of situational awareness, which can be tiring if you're out with kids.Florida Crew as of 3/21

If this was really about safety and not the money it generates the I think there is an easy solution: firearms safety in public education, same as how we have alcohol, drug, and sex education. I’d wager a person is as likely to come across a gun in America as they are drugs, so it just makes statistical sense to have this.

Agreed. So someone passes a background check that says they are legally allowed to own a firearm, but then you need a license to carry it. The licensing process has become a device of government regulation that can be used against citizens. With the Biden admin taking such big swings at property/human rights, the hostile political climate coming from the extremists, Texas is trying to head it off by making it easier to carry for protection.
Keep in mind, some states issue licenses without any training, testing or anything. You just apply and if you pass the criminal background check and pay, you get it. So then what’s the use of having it in the first place if you are only required to be in legal possession of the firearm but not any training? Pa is one such state...
That said, does the bill specifically say open carry only? I couldn’t find anything on that. One party system; Most Republicans are Democrats, but no Democrats are Republicans.

The fact that displaying my gun triggers you so hard makes YOU lose your tactical advantage. Imagine being this emotional and carrying a gun. I bet if a tailpipe backfires you'd hit the ground with your gun out.
Except for the New Yorker, ya aren't allowed to be outside
It's called deterrence. Some guy is going to think twice about pulling his gun out when he sees multiple ppl in a crowd with one. Or are you going to try to say that someone is less likely to pull a gun out when they DON'T see others with weapons? Lol

Go back and read my first post ITT you fuking moron. If everyone, or even a majority of people are open carrying, it could be a deterrent. That’s not the case anywhere I’ve been that has open carry. It’s usually just some insecure little bitch like yourself. If it’s just one or a few people, that’s just who’s getting shot first by a bad guy with any level of intelligence. You do you though.

Oh lord, you are one of those kids who fantasizes about stopping a mass shooting.
FYI, 99% of the adults who own or carry weapons do it for personal protection, not because they are walking around all the time scared a mass shooting is going to break out. LOL. Tell us again how Alpha you are.RWGFY

So you agree then go on to say scared beta pussies like yourself won't open carry because you're scared a bad guy with a gun will shoot you. I don't live my life in fear but it's been working for you so far so keep on keeping on beta
Jesus do you have enough tissues to contain those emotional tears lol. No one said anything about a mass shooting but you desperately wanted to bring it up. Having a gun during a mass shooting isn't personal protection?
That's enough misc retards for one day
