    I was wondering for those who have 6 packs and use skinfold calipers....
    When you use the caliper for measuring your fat near your belly button, what do you get? Cause I get 9 mm and was wondering if that's too much to have a 6 pack...

    it doesn't really what the calipers measure if you can see your abs and you still have a six pack. If your bodyfat is high, the fat will be covering up your abs. What does your bodyfat come out to?

    It comes out to 5% but I'm not so sure if this is correct. I used the body fat calculator on scoobysworkshop.com and i entered my stats and it says Im at 5% body fat.

    Height: 5'8"
    age: 18
    weight: 138
    Caliiper measures:
    chest: 4 mm
    abs: 9 mm
    thigh: 9 mm

    If I'm at 5% body fat, shouldn't I have a clearly visible 6 pack? Maybe it's just because my abs are not big enough to be seen......

    It could be that but it's also because your chest measurement is only at 4 mm. The calipers take the average of all three measurements to get the final number. But you're right, the abs will look better the more developed and deeper they are.

    Hi, I got your book and read through most of it. I do have one question about your sample splits in it. If for example the exercise calls for 4 sets of 10,8,6,6 do you aim to increase weight each set or just use the same weight throughout. I know alot of times if I just performed a hard set of 8 I would have a hard time upping the weight and doing another set of 6. Or should the the beginning sets be a more moderate weight? Thanks in advance for your help

    Yes, as the reps go down, the weight goes up. The set with 10 reps should be a more moderate weight, then you increase the weight and reps go down to 8 reps. This set shouldn't be done to failure. The last two sets with 6 reps should be your heaviest weight and you should do these to failure or close to failure.

    Hey john, could you list the benefits of earning a natural pro card, and maybe some idea's on how that would help blend in the fitness industry with the accreditations of a PT and Strength and conditioning coach will be my career goal's basically besides looking good on a resume? maybe running a personal website based off my name and after I get accomplishments and win competitions etc?

    That's a good question because it seems like a lot of natural bodybuilders today are interested in getting their pro card so they can tell everyone that they are a pro natural bodybuilder. In fact, the INBA organization has competitions that are pro qualifiers but they don't give you the pro card unless you purchase one after you win it. The reason they do that is because so many bodybuilders were winning professional status and then never competing as a pro because they just wanted the title to use it to promote their business (mostly personal training).

    I don't know if being a pro bodybuilder will help your personal training business but some uninformed customers might think it makes you a better trainer if you are a "pro". I think your physique and the changes you make in your client's physiques is a bigger selling point than being a pro bodybuilder. We've all seen trainers who don't even look like they workout. If you are in top shape and muscular, you are looking the part.

    What always helped me in my career was winning titles. I recognized a long time ago that the general public puts value in titles. When I won the 1986 NPC Illinois State, I called up the Chicago newspapers and TV stations and told them I just won the "Mr. Illinois" and they all did stories on me. When I was competing in the natural competitions and I found out that there was a title called the Natural Mr. Universe, I immediately made plans to compete and win that show because I knew it would be huge for my career. That first Natural Mr. Universe win was 20 years ago (1992) and people still call me Mr. Universe. While all the other natural bodybuilders were trying to win the NPC Team Universe in the mid-90's, I wanted to win the Natural Mr. Universe. If you were going to call up a TV station or a mainstream newspaper and tell them who you were and what you won, what do you think would sound more impressive, Natural Mr. Universe or Team Universe? I can hear the television producer now, "Team Universe? What does that mean? Oh, MR. UNIVERSE! That's much more impressive!"
