not long after consuming whey protein shakes, i fart a lot and it really smells. i'm thinking this may relate to having too much at once - should i have less at given time?

I had the same issue when I was using 100% Whey Gold Standard, non-stop flatulence!! I switched to Pro Complex/Myosfusion and never had the issue again. The only thing I could think of is 100% Whey GS is ion-exchange WPI, my gut just didn't mesh with it???

yay protein farts. i agree, i switched to myo and dont have huge gas. how many shakes are you taking? if you're pounding down more than 2 or 3 switch to some whole food

Do you take it with milk or water? cuase maybe milk is the reason, i have to drink protein with water otherwise i fart a lot

Depends on the protein. Protein that is mainly Concentrate tends to give people gas.

Seriously though, it could be the protein you are using regardless what you mix it with.
Try MusclePharm's Combat Powder. I use it with water or milk and have no gas and I don't **** my brains out.Injury is ineffective without Ambition.

Get anything thats pure isolate. Dymatize ISO-100 is great. I believe XF whey 2.0 is also pure isolate but kinda spendy

LIV 52 helps me with that.
Take 2 pills a day and it will really help.
Found some good deals an amazon for it.

Slow down
That happen to me. It is best to gradually increase your whey protein intake. I did added 4 grams of protein every day until I was at my protein limit. Eveeyone is different, however, you may have to do one gram a day, or you may be able to add 10 grams a day. Doing it this way let my stomach adjust and this meant no fowel gas!

Larger intake of protein can cause this. When using whey shakes this can be an issue as well. IN time your body should acclimate.
If you not feeling the burn your not pushing hard enough.
