Can't believe how hard this sport really is.

I seriously believe this is the hardest sport to get into. It involves great genetics(if you're too tall or too short or your body isnt right or you have bad muscle bellies forget being great), years of discipline in grueling training and dieting, **** loads of money, and depending if you want to climb to the top tier testosterone and other drugs that could potentially kill you (i.e. Diuretics, insulin). I've literally been killing myself in the gym and have became pretty much stronger then any Teen and more big cut defined ect. I've met in real life and I realize I'm still way far behind and have a **** load more work to do to get up there just looking at some kids around this site and considering the fact you know someone else out there just has that edge on you.

Does it blow anyone elses mind how much this takes if you're serious about it?

I don't really think about it like that.

I know what I gotta do, and I get it done. I don't think in terms of "Oh this is hard." or "He might be better than me." I just say... A man's got to do what a man's got to do, I suppose....

I'm new, I just do it all without thinking. I guess if I get into competition a few years down the road, I might run into what you're seeing, but my whey and creatine doesn't cost too much right now

Ehh I disagree strongly. Driving a car is simple you can practice driving the car as much as you want and can see exactly whats right and whats wrong. In bodybuilding your basically just doing something and hoping for the best results you have no real idea where you're going or how you respond to something. And if you aren't already decently built at like 16 you probablly wont have a good chance at competing and doing well in this.

I agree 100%. Its what makes the sport so fun. MMA is hard too. But w/o a wrestling background, you aren't going anywhere most likely.

You're doing real well for 16 though man. But on a serious not if you aren't like where you are no bodybuilding is almost a no go. That's the only thing you are really given though in this sport everything else has to be worked damn hard for. Steroids or not you still have to work your dick off to have a great physique.

The way I see it, with regard to cost, my younger brother plays lacrosse. To even step on the field, he needs a stick (2 actually because he plays defense), a helmet, padding, and a jersey the school charges for. I've never run the numbers, but my supps, which are the basics (whey, multi, fish oil, creatine) probably cost a similar amount. Of course, u could make the argument that his expenses only need to be bought once, but every so often something breaks and needs to be replaced.

Also, I forgot where I read this, but the philosophy was that a football player is a star on the football field, and a basketball player is a star on the court, but bodybuilding is a 24 hour sport, so we're stars 24 hours a day

    Football is hard no doubt.

I feel like bodybuilding is really difficult because if you think about it this sport might never go mainstream. Not just because of politics or whatever today but think about it like this. Look at the kids in your school pretty much any boy can play football if he wants to. Now look at them and see how many could be potential bodybuilders? Maybe a handful if you're lucky and it's like that all around high schools. So now we're not only looking at how few people can do it but then take into account how many of them are really willing to train as hard as you have to even with the good genetics they've been given to become good bodybuilders. Probablly not too many. And there's soo many more variables. Football will always be mainstream because soo many people can achieve that level (no offence) Bodybuilding is still pretty much underground because very few can get to a good enough point to compete at the top level.

I respectfully disagree. I believe that football requires as much of a genetic advantage as IFBB bodybuilding does. Being able to run a 4.4 40 at 270 lbs is pretty special. The reason that so many people are in the NFL is because it is just a physically demanding game, you have to have lots of bodies on the field, unlike bodybuilding where it's a couple of guys on a stage.

The reason bodybuilding is so underground is that it is shown in a negative light by the mainstream media (steroids, etc). The same media glorifies football. This might scare away kids who would otherwise have the genetic potential to be the next Ronnie or Arnold. Many people could have the genetics to be an IFBB bodybuilder but will never know it because they won't try it out. But pretty much every kid at least tries football.

365 days a year? 24/7? Maybe when you're in your teens yes. Alot of pros will take months off in the offseason to let their bodies recover from competeing. When you're "deep" in the offseason that's your time to chill and relax.

If you want to go pro in any sport you need good genetics and dedication.

Lets pat our backs some more. Not only are BB the most beautiful, but they have the hardest job?

W/O 4-5days a week, and maintain a diet. Not hard =/ Same body motions, same lifts, same food. There are no big changes in your perception, or turnovers. There isn't a team dynamic to face, nor are there a great deal of environmental factors.

The fact that many teens younger than you are much better than you should have you reconsider your valuation. I'd like to see a 17 year old run pace with some pro soccer players or football players. But you could very well see him winning a BB competition out of his age group.
