    Rogue Monster Lat Pulldown purchase

So I received a rogue Monster lat pull down and thought I'd share some thoughts as I couldn't find a lot of information when I was mulling this purchase for the past two years. I've been buying Rogue for years and I am generally a fan.

    1. It was expensive, just a little less than $3500.

    2. After I placed the order, Rogue suspended the order until I talked to them. I guess they've had problems with UPS freight drivers willing to try to bring this 10' pallet down by a lift gate. (most lift gates are around 8' wide) after an initial failed delivery (I think the driver was scared to bring it down) I had it delivered today, helping the driver we were able to get it into my garage. The original pallet had been damaged and was delivered stacked on a second shorter pallet.

    3. It did arrive damaged, the seat cushion was not protected when it arrived and was worn and torn. The upper pulley(plastic) was also broke in half.

    4. I was able to get it setup and placed with just the help of my girlfriend. My gym is in my garage, we had to negotiate a 1 1/2" step up. We were able to do it with an engine picker, car jack and a pair of wooden furniture dollies. It took me about 2 hours.

    5. Thoughts on equipment...somewhat of a letdown, at least on the low row, as this is all I can use at the moment due to damage, the guide pin comes out all the way and sometimes wobbles out getting in the hole causing the weight stack not to go down...hopefully there's a quick fix to this.

    6. Lat pull down is nice, great knurl.

    7. You'd think they'd give you two carabiner's for each pulley (high and low), but you only get one.

    8. What wasn't clear from pics and calling rogue...is there is a nylon bushing under the seat to accommodate low pulley exercises. This was a pleasant surprise, as I couldn't get a definitive answer and purchased on faith anyways.lat pull down.jpgpallet lat pull down.jpg

    9. Stated they'd address problems...we will see.

Wait, what? Last year there was a guy who had a couple helpers and couldn't even stand his up. You did it with just your girlfriend? Repped for being a man.

Nice piece of info. I had been considering this unit and this was one of the issues that gave me hesitation. Ultimately I got a nice deal on a local Legend piece.

Hope they can fix it quickly and you get it in use as fast. Enjoy!

Also full gym pics with it set up would be cool!

Just curious what you guys think, Here's a pic of the broken pulley and a link to the rogue page for the lat pull down https://www.roguefitness.com/monster...ow-stand-alone . One place on the page says new 6" aluminum pulleys + uhmw covers, another it says 6" nylon pulley (which is what I think have here). Would you say this is a 6" a aluminum pulley? It may be an aluminum bushing? Funny thing was....I guess I was supposed to receive two carabiners as well.

Not sure if that is aluminum or nylon...but its definitely broken!

I'm sure Rogue customer service will make it right (still frustrating, tho')

Glass reinforced nylon. Looks identical to a Fenner Drives pulley, or at least a knock off.
Try and melt it, that'll tell you for sure.

Well....rogue customer service definitely doesn't seem to be what it once was.....but we will keep this related to the machine.

Got the new pulley, installed......pulley was rubbing, further dis-assembly needed of the top pulley arm to correct an assembly issue on their part didn't see this when first delivered as that pulley was broke in half.

Thought's on machine, due to size of stack, you need to stay close to it or you risk running out of room on any pulls, mostly when utilizing the top pulley for things other then lat pull downs, such as over head tricep rope extensions, also on regular tricep rope pull downs as I like to lean way over into mine. The low pulley is nice, sitting on the ground seems to make no difference to me.

Biggest issue so far is pin popping out of weight stack, mostly on lighter weight and hanging up (happens to wife a lot), see pic.

I tend to just get the pin slamming into the top of the weight plates before finding the hole as the pin is tapered. If I wedge some toothpicks in to the slack of where the pin meets the weight stack and use bands on the pegs it makes it a bit more tolerable almost like a real machine.

Did you check if machine is level? Pin shouldn't tilt to one side like that.

That's a great point, and I honestly hadn't checked until after I saw your post . However, I am level. Its almost like it needs a collar with a set screw. Rogue has me standing by to stand by...

For tricep work you might want to try adding an extension cable, might only need a foot.
Regarding the carriage pin, I posted something either in this thread or another. I had a similar issue with my legend pro lat pull low row. The solution they sent in the form of a video was to force the pin in the opposite direction to which it is coming out. Pull the carriage pin all the way up and give it a few strong pushes to the opposite side.

My man I had a similar problem with my cybex eagle for years where anything less than three plates and the pin would sway a few cm. I got it used for 150 in otherwise perfect shape and lived with the issue for a decade but this past summer I decided to clean the plates so I detached the guide rods and cleaned each plate and then reassembled and low and behold it works perfect now for the first time pub falls dead center. No offense but the reason i lived with it was because I knew it was a 2,000 plus machine I got for roughly 6 percent it’s face value. If you paid what you did and wanna deal with toothpicks for the next 40 years god bless you

It’s a cable top right? Would it help to loosen up the cable connection, then try pulling the pin up, maybe it can self center before retightening the cable? I’m not sure how that rogue cable connector is setup. My machines are all belt driven and the weigh pin comes up through the top plate.

From that toothpick pick, it kind looks like the pin should go down until it hits that collar. you can't back that screw & nut off a few turns to extend the length?

Probably not, but supposedly they are working on a real fix. Hopefully part of that fix will involve some sort of gift card.

It creates tension for the cable, it connected by a bolt thru the pin.

Try to loosen that bolt that goes through the 10lb plate, see if it makes a difference, if it does, then re-tighten a couple different ways to see if it moves.

You paid like 3500 for that, my honest opinion I would demand 300 minimum gift card and if you are adamant they will give it to you because it’s cheaper than shipping it back to them and then a replacement to you

For your trouble alone. Just keep saying that you shouldn’t have to fix anything on something you paid top dollar for. You buy a car for 3500 at an auction you can expect to do body work but not on a brand new Bmw out of the showroom

They are shipping out a new top plate with a tighter tolerance, we will see if that fixes my problem ( I guess my tooth picks helped their R&D department). Had to fight with them more then I'd like, I left a review a couple days ago on their website.......because it wasn't 4 or 5 stars....seems like it may have been lost. If it doesn't show up, then I guess we know the value of their website reviews, but again I guess I already suspected that as I use this forum.
