Whoever becomes the champ now will be the ‘post Khabib champ’. He wont be considered the best because the best allowed him to get the belt by retiring.
I cant think of another fighter who didnt only retire with a clean record after dominating his devision but also looked his peak, as well as leagues beyond his opponent in his last fight.
He seriously ****ed the division with that.

LW division is cucked now

No he didn't lol.
He opened up the division and there are a chitload of amazing fights to make over the next couple of years.
Conor, Tony, Gaethje, Chandler, Hooker, Poirier, Oliviera will all be fighting each other in number 1 contender fights and title fights.
I obviously get your point but it will all be forgotten pretty quickly. People have very short memories, especially in sports.
Everyone knows Khabib is the LW GOAT and it doesn't really change anything. Only idiots will be saying, "but he wouldn't beat Khabib". He had an amazing career and retired. We move on.

That's different to what you were saying in the OP. Hypothetical match ups is normal fight fan talk. But people not being as interested in the division because Khabib is still in his prime but retired won't be a thing. It will breathe new life into the division if anything. Khabib was averaging like 1 fight a year.
Khabib being the best doesn't matter. He retired. He is no longer relevant outside of talking about the past or his legacy and stuff.
As I said, people have short memories. Real short.

People have short memories in terms of being hyperbolic (craziest KO, best fight ever, worst decision ever, OMG greatest KO ever, etc.). But I think what OP is referring to is the ability to transcend whatever era you are competing in. Without beating Khabib, nobody from the current era can ever be considered GOAT. If you competed during Khabib's era, there's pretty nothing you can do ever shake the 'but you never topped what Khabib did' charge.
It's why GSP's legacy, haters not withstanding, has and will continue to reign supreme for his era. He transcended his competition.
Khabib was a generational talent.

I agree with all of this but that's not what OP is saying. He said Khabib has fukt the division because the next champ won't be considered the champ, as in the best fighter, because Khabib retired as the best. I'm saying that is irrelevant because he has removed himself from the sport, so the next champ IS the best fighter.
As I said in my first post, I understand what OP is getting at, I just don't think it will be a big deal. Maybe you'll hear it from certain hardcores or Khabib fanboys, but chit will keep rolling. I think what's more likely is someone puts 2/3 wins together and looks amazing and people start saying "maybe he could beat Khabib, I wish we could see that fight", etc.
Khabib is the undisputed LW GOAT and he will be for a LONG time. Conor, Gaethje, Tony, Poirier and those guys only have a few years left at the top. And none of them are close to the same bracket as Khabib.

I have said it before... the Justin fight will prove that Conor really was Khabib's arch nemesis all along. Who gave prime-Khabib a fight? He rolled over Dustin and Justin but Conor at least stayed in there until the very finish.
I think Conor will get the title back now. I think Conor will defeat Dustin, his stand up is still beyond Dustin's. If Conor really wants to cement his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all time, he faces the Welterweight champ for the title after LW. If Conor can win that somehow, Conor's name will be in the mount rushmore of MMA with Khabib, Jones, Fedor, and GSP. There is so much to fight for Dustin, Justin, Conor, and Tony.

Weird. How is it not what OP is saying? That is exactly it. The next champ will have Khabib's shadow over him. People will say 'but this was after Khabib' as in 'he wouldn't be a champ if Khabib was around'. The next champ will be the best among his current opponents, sure, but he will not be considered the GOAT because of Khabib. Unless, another phenom appears and dominates the division with a similar record and similar performances. At this point, Khabib retired while seeming invincible.

No one wins a belt then becomes the GOAT.
These were your exact words

4 man tournament for the belt would be good right now. Justin/dp, tony/Chandler. Meanwhile conor can take a fun favorable fight. Then when there is a clear champ conor can fight for the belt. This will probably be best case scenario for the UFC. But it really depends how far they are with Conor and Dustin. I say scratch that and do the tournament. If conor wins the belt he can hold the division hostage again and go box lol
