The death rate of H1N1 was just 0.02%. By comparison, the data to date seems to indicate that the case fatality rate (the number of reported deaths divided by the reported cases) for the coronavirus is 3% to 4%
that means covid-19 called for a FASTER and BETTER response, not a worse one.

Peer reviewed studies have the death rate at 1.2% of SYMPTOMATIC cases, which would place this pretty close to H1N1's .2 death rate of TOTAL cases.

Comparing total cases between countries is perhaps the worst metric you can use.

This, comparing curves with comparable population would be far more accurate as there is obviously multiple reasons for the huge discrepancy in cases among states.

^^^ Just an FYI for those comparing H1N1 with covid-19 and their mortality rates.

When H1N1 first broke out in 2009 estimated mortality rates were just as high as covid-19. It wasn't until 3 years later in 2012-2013 CDC researched and revised it down to .02% because they didn't correctly consider the asymptomatic.

Expect a similar major mortality rate reduction for covid-19.




That said, Trump's poll numbers are going up and you guys just can't stand it. When all is said and done this will work out in his favor. Good luck with dealing.

The coronavirus scare is bullsh*t, and people are quickly figuring this out as they look around and find NO ONE in their extended networks of friends and family getting seriously ill from it. The handful of deadly cases are so rare that the majority of Americans aren't going to be affected by this virus at all, really, and will reward the national leader tough enough to defy the overwhelming fearmongering campaign and condemnation. The leader with the balls to brave that withering barrage of hate and criticism, and end the lockdown regardless, will win come election time.

By getting ahead of the hype and ending this lockdown before it destroys our economy long term, Trump will secure victory in 2020 despite his many other failings. The majority will secretly thank him for it.
