Hey Everybody,
Has anyone had surgery for a partial-thickness tear? My understanding of the procedure is that the surgeon deliberately detaches the tendon completely and then repairs/reattaches it as one would for a full-thickness tear. Is this accurate?
For those of you who have done it, are you happy with the results?
Thanks.

I had a repair of a right hand supraspinatus partial thickness tear a couple of yeas ago and have been happy with it. It was resected. Lost a little rom reaching around my back, but other that that it is strong and stable. I still do therabands every morning and use free weights and db's as I did before surgery.
Whether or not they resect depends on what they see when they get in there during surgery. It's a judgement call after they test the undamaged portion, and see how well a partial repair would work. Achieving equal sharing of the work load across the entire tendon is what decides that.
Good luck!

This is exactly what I was told by my orthopedic guy this morning. They really only get so much information from the MRI which comes with the radiologist's own report. He mentioned that if the MRI is true to my injury, they can fix it without going for a big incision. My tear is only slight with more of a fraying thing going on.
