Select a good all inclusive resort on a nice stretch of beach

If you want to do more things on your own, I'd suggest Playa Del Carmen. It's a more convenient location to explore the Riviera Maya, and a better city to wander around

its been a while but its a commercial strip of hotels and tourist friendly bars. You can go into the local areas for food, shopping or sight seeing. The local food is salty as **** and largely disgusting so get an all inclusive at your hotel. The shopping among the natives is basically a giant pile of stalls with people selling you blankets and junk. If you want to do some bartering take any name brand clothing and offer to trade it for whatever they are selling. Its like gold there, you could probably buy some guys 2 children for some nikes.

Solo travel is tough OP. Make sure you find a resort that caters to singles if you can and you'll have a way better time. There's also a "lifestyle" resort called Temptation in Cancun which was a blast and you'll find lots of swingers to get laid if you have a good body and a good personality. I met a guy there who was "single" and had a sob story he broke up with his fiance right before his trip and he got laid multiple times a day from wives and girlfriends.

Me and a mate went and the hotel we booked in was mostly full of honeymoon couples. We looked like wrong ‘uns 🤦‍♂️

Next door hotel was party central 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Most hotels are all-inclusive so you can’t just walk into another hotel.

Suntan lotion is shockingly expensive. Much more than US or Europe.

If you want some Pablo Escobar then the male bartenders are your best bet..I did t didn’t it

Go to Cancun and go to isla mujeres, beautiful island were you can walk into the water for at least a mile.

Then go to XEL-HA water park for even more fun. Look at the google pics, it’s fun

Stayed at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso which is between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen on that long straight highway.. GOAT times. Literally GOAT Caribbean place to go if you consider it the Caribbean... Coco Bongo was HNNNNNNNG and relatively cheap for a huge corner booth with 5 bottles.

On the way back I was asked at the airport multiple times I've been to China or around people from China... Pandemic hits/lockdown occurs shortly after.

Went to Cancun again this July... Nowhere near as fun as the first time.. IMO Playa Del Carmen>>>Cancun... This can also be partially blamed on no pandemic vs pandemic but it was relatively dead in July.. Nothing open other than the resort we stayed on...

Isla Mujeres tho.. Was GOAT when I went in July.. Rented a golf cart and explored the whole island. Fukked around with some dolphins and saw some Mayan ruins... Those houses on the East side of the island are straight out of a Bond flick. Wood return.

Not sure if I'd go to Cancun again. My resort was full of middle aged foreveralones trying to relive Spring Break 1985 and the beach was full of those annoying ass bums selling chit.

I literally just got back from Cancun. I’ve been many times. This time I stayed at Lablanc. I’ve stayed at nice places all over the world but nothing touches this place...It is not for singles, however...

Check out Peradisus if you go all inclusive. Nice, some singles, good beach

Do NOT stop inside the airport. You catch rides outside.

Do not by drinks outside the airport

Take tip money and give them a $20 if you are hanging out on the beach or the pool. You will be the FIRST to get drinks all day.

Don’t go into downtown and get your kidney stolen

Don't bring sand to the beach. Bros only.

Agreed, local food is great pretty much everywhere in Mexico. If those parks like Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Xplore, etc. are open, that's a good option for OP

It's an island that's a short boat ride from the resort we stayed at. Made a deal with some of those dudes on the beach. They gave us a boat ride there, picked us up 6 hours later, took us snorkeling and back to the beach for 80 bucks. This resort was more secluded and on more a northern part of cancun about 25 minutes away from the hotel zone.

Nice thing about Isla Mujeres is that you can drink and drive... Got tons of GoPro footage. Literally driving on an island finding a beverage stand on the side of the road in some jungle type tree area. Buying 6 cans of Dos XX and sipping them while driving in the open... Really helps and makes it fun when you know how to drive properly and can communicate with other drives through your driving body language.

Resort was nice but wasn't a fan of the vibes and people there.. The food was cafeteria quality and only certain restaurants were open on a random schedule.. Almost every restaurant we went to on the resort you could tell the food came from the same kitchen... Not horrible but tolerable.

Got kinda weird/funny seeing the same couples every day at different restaurants, by the pool and on the beach... Went with my girl and it was definitely a honey moon vibe. Guarantee some of those people were into swinging and chit. Some nasty 40/50 year old couple was always around. Imagine a fat white middle aged lady acting like a total sloot. Kept trying to talk to my girl. Kept making references at her calling her sexy.. Sexy this sexy that. She even came up to us at the bar and told us we had sexy drinks.. I don't even..

We made the best of it. Laughed at our surroundings. Slept a lot, drank, and chilled. First time going with my girl.

Got some other funny times in the Caribbean. Jamaica was funny, stayed next to a swingers/nude resort and we didn't even know it... Some black chick from ATL came to our room and wanted to get tag teamed by me and my buddy.


Pick your resorts wisely. Just go see Playa Del Carmen. Even the locals there were stunningly hot.
