Those flavors sound good enough to pick up. Talenti is usually so hit or miss so my expectations won't be too high.

Yeah they aren't moving at all from what I was told.. So out the door they are going! My guess with the HD though is that they are having to make some room for the so many new flavors they are releasing including their non-dairy.

Ample Hills First Order


This is my first scoop from the Star Wars 3-pack. I'm not a Star Wars fan at all (I know... I know), but I couldn't pass up some new ice cream from Ample Hills. This is basically the base from "It Came From Gowanus" without the mixins.



Many people will immediately write this one off because of it literally having no mixins at all. However, this is one of the finest bases in the game. It is dense, thick and once you let it temper the right amount, it is extremely creamy.



The flavor is very rich and strong. When they described it as an intense, salted, deep dark chocolate, they weren't lying. It is in fact the same base as Gowanus for those of you who have scooped that amazing pint.



It also contains bittersweet chocolate and a dash of espresso. The espresso is not that noticeable at all just because of the salty and rich dark chocolate flavors. However, the bittersweet chocolate is a main player. It definitely cuts a lot of the sweetness with its bitterness and allows the premium cocoa powder, as well as the cocoa butter, in the chocolate base to come through full force.



With all of that said, the absolute game changer in this pint was the amount of saltiness in the base. Ample Hills even put nutrition labels on these pints and each serving contains 220 mg of sodium, and man is it obvious.



This pint was almost like a love hate for me. The base is fantastic and I could easily eat this over and over again on its own. The saltiness mixed with the rich dark chocolate combines for a an incredible sweet and salty ice cream. However, Ample Hills has too many other flavors that are equally good AND loaded with mixins. For that reason, it has to rank just slightly lower on my list despite it being one of the best bases in the ice cream game. B

It really surprises me that people rave about their ice cream sandwiches being so good but their ice cream is just average. Is it hype or are they really that good?

It’s real. The cookie quality is the biggest factor. From my experience relative to quality (190-220ish cals) the mix ratio or placement has been the biggest downfall. Their base ice cream combined with that soft cookie hasn’t let me down. It really is a no-brainer if they are available in-store.

I would say the top flavors are
Salted Caramel
Oatmeal Rasin
Red Velvet
Birthday Cake

Like ADD61 said, their ice cream sandwiches are on another level because of the cookies. They are incredibly soft, chewy moist and DENSE! So thick.. I have scooped almost all of their sandwiches and they NEVER disappoint!

While I agree, look at how popular Halo Top and the other low calorie ice creams are. Those are technically ice milk, but people have no problem paying a premium for it because it's "healthy."

True but the B&J versions are lower cal but not to the level of HT. Point being that for that quality those options already exist depending on your region. I understand what you are saying but paying $4-5 dollars for 160 Cals store bought is nutty to me. Just my opinion of course.

I went through the Halo Top phase before I really dove into the B&J world (Tonight dough was my favorite flavor at the time LOL)...not saying B&J is the best out there, but once I was exposed to quality cream there was no turning back...feel for the Blue Bell fanboys in my area ha

I was close to doing that for Clementines as a one off but they don’t have a shipping partner apparently to lower the rates.
