Grand Solar Minimum: Buckle Up For Winter Boyos (srs)

I posted a thread about this over the summer I believe. But this time it has more heat to it because we are already experiencing the actual effects of it.

Grand Solar Minimum: Based on solar cycles, the grand solar minimum is typically every 11 years where sun spots are not visible and the solar activity is considered calm.

This usually means that the winter is a little longer, temperatures a little cooler, and more snow/precipitation. This however causes more issues than you would think. Studying a lot of the earlier cycles and periods of solar minima, you can see a trend of what happens world wide during these times. Backed by science.

Negative Effects Typical:
-Food shortages because of shorter growing season
-Lack of feed for livestock because temperatures allow particular parasites to thrive under snow that kills crops, and fungus to grow in grain storage
-Glacier advance and ruptured glacial ice dams causing major floods
-Major increase in seismic (earthquakes) activity and volcanic activity
-Major wildfires
-Violent damaging wind
-High producing storms and especially hail storms
-Some regions experiencing much more flooding, and others more extreme droughts
-Decline in global temperature by several degrees
-Increase cloud cover and decreased intensity of light from sun
-Increase in influenza. These times are also known for the plague, and things like spread of malaria through Europe due to floods creating swampy lands which increased mosquitos.

The Maunder Minimum:The Maunder Minimum, also known as the "prolonged sunspot minimum", is the name used for the period around 1645 to 1715 during which sunspots became exceedingly rare, as was then noted by solar observers. The term was introduced after John A. Eddy published a landmark 1976 paper in Science.

If you look throughout history at grand solar minimums where they are prolonged and last years, major historical events happen. Major dynasties fall, major and deadly droughts and other weather related things happen, and major sickness outbreaks happen.

The reason this one is getting much more hype is because many people believe this will be a long lasting grand solar minimum of which some are suggesting from 2020-2053, while others think it will be a much shorter one spanning 2-3 years. Global cool down could be happening here.

Recent Events Showing This:
-Increase in hurricanes
-Increase in wild fires worldwide
-Increase in hail storms world wide
-Increase in heavy wind damaging storms (think Iowa and IL derecho)
-Increase in sickness "covid" (basically just increase in flu let's be honest)
-Already record snowfalls and colin October in the US just this past week
-All long term weather models suggest way below average temperatures and above average precipitation for a lot of the US
-Tons of crop losses from wind and early frost dates before harvest


Prepare boyos. Could be a long term cool down exploding the "climate change (global warming in disguise)" narrative. Start growing your own food. Might experience meat and vegetable shortages this winter. srs.

Well the temperatures will vary. Remember weather is cyclical and winters depend on El Nino's and La Nina's. Last winter we had a major El Nino movement and winter was very warm and and neutral all over. La Nina's are usually the ones that bring a lot of cold and a lot of snow. That's what is being predicted for this winter. They aren't as common. But the southern US will be probably above average for winter in terms of temperature.

I mean october has been full of record snow and cold in a lot of the US.

Yea that was bad language. But several I mean typical is 1-3 degrees cooler worldwide. That's big fluctuation which I why in my head I said several.

Supposedly if a big solar flare hit us it could knock out the entire grid, if not kill us all. We vastly overestimate our own power and importance.

We just entered the 25th solar cycle this year I believe. NASA even predicted that this solar cycle will be similar to Solar Cycle 1 (during the maunder minimum)

And grand solar minimum is usually a case of extremes. The northern hemisphere typically deals with major cold, less sun, more clouds, etc. Southern hemisphere won't see those types of issues, but probably more major weather events, wildfires, etc.

As said above the 25gth solar cycle is when it was predicted. At least that is what I saw. I know last year they said between 2021-2023. Hard to tell, but I am pretty sure we are in it now.

Yes. I've been a cosmology/astronomy enthusiast pretty much since a kid and one of things that made me question the narrative around climate change in college was the fact that solar weather was so ignored.

Not saying it is the missing link or whatever. Just that it needs to be studied more IMO. Also, FWIW I would consider myself a huge man-made climate change skeptic now, but I wasn't back then.

for instance, hydro and nuclear energy i guess could stay put? wind would definitely change with temperature shifts

but yeaaa... plants harvest the suns energy and create the atmosphere. without that energy plants would begin to die, which would have a massive effect on the food chain or food web, whatever you want to call it. water temperature would shift causing massive temperature changes, etc.

Electricity is required to keep EVERYTHING going. Transport for food, manufacturing of medicine, heating and cooling, and the list goes on.

BEST case scenario if it hits, we know ahead of time, and can shut the power down nation wide. This MIGHT save say 30-60% of the grid. So some areas will still have power. At first somewhat stable. But as the plants will lack resources and logistics from it's parent company it will become intermittent at best.

The problem is logistics is setup for the national level. It will be a giant cluster fukk for months. So at BEST you might get spotty food, medicine, and heat.

By the way this would last for DECADES potentially as the US doesn't keep a transformer stockpile to replace them. And guess where they are exclusively made? You think they will be willing to sell any to us PERIOD? Or not until they fix their own country.

It's predicted if it hits hard and worldwide, and shutting the lines off doesn't save parts of the grid, it could take up to 100 years to replace all the transformers. Assuming we could even get china to make them for us, or figure out how to make them here.

Second point, a solar flare big enough to kill our grid is at best a 1 in a 10000 year event. Climate change is guaranteed to **** us in 100 years, so there's a large difference in relevance.

are all forms of power connected to the "power grid"?

you said nationally but im unaware of the entire structure.

how does solar power tie into the "grid". you have people that have their own little solar stuff but then i guess you prob have big companies that tie it into a bigger (communal) grid

does all hydro, wind and nuclear energy go to the same grid?

seems like increasing alternative energy is a slight solution
