Thumbs up Why do people base their self-worth on their house? srs

Some miscers are like that too

You'll find them in any thread about home ownership if someone says anything but praise being a home owner

They're quick to brag about any property they own and "muh equity" as if it's the be all and end all of their identity

Just a bunch of different rooms partitioned off by wood and people base so much of their self worth on whether they own it

Do people actually own the home or is it the Banks that you pay a mortgage to?

Well with society becoming more introverted and homebody you spend like 99% of your time (outside of work) at home. If not 100% if you're some kind of remote worker or digital nomad type.

It's likewise the idea that nobody can take the home from you. Well the government technically can but even a poverty minimum wage McJob should be able to handle some $3K/annual property tax..

If the metric by which you measure your value is money or material based (most people in a consumerist society) then, yes - it makes sense; A house usually represents the largest proportion of a person's net worth.

Yes, people actually own the house, not the bank.

    You are your mind

    You are your body

You are also the life around you.

Part of your identity is your home, your car, your bed, your possessions.

    These things ARE you.

You've literally traded your life for these things. Youve bargained lifetime for dollars, and dollars for posessions.

These possessions are representations of your limited lifetime that you possess.

So your decisions on what possessions you choose to spend your limited lifetime on is a natural basis of self worth.

It's the reason why someone who is given something has a hard time appreciating it. It does not have the value to you as it would if it represented time out if your life.

Because if you don't own a house, you are cucking yourself especially in bidens economy. You think raising the taxes on the rich AKA your landlord is going to help your rent price to go down? JUST LMAO. People like me will pass the expense onto people like you....and you will bend over each and every time saying "thank you sir may i have another" all because you are too inept to figure out the mathematics behind home ownership....not to mention the banks literally give out FREE MONEY right now. My personal home is on a 15 year fixed at like 2.65%. You are just trolling i know. But for the uneducated miscers, home owner ship insulates you from lifes rising expenses, especially under a socialist regime with the exception of property taxes.

That looks like an amazing piece of property you have there. Where is it? The dock seems pretty cool too with that space in between ...

    Oregon.

Love it, I'm big into water sports and I absolutely love my place. Bought it end of 2018, and started the remodel in 2019 and finished end of summer 2020.

    Winter time

Here's a walk through of the kitchen after the remodel.

Well written. Yet I’m left confused as to whether you’re simply explaining why (right or wrong) it makes sense that people place so much value in material things, or whether you’re also romanticizing the possession of material goods.

Either way, keyword in your post was that “part” of one’s identity is their home, car, etc... but let’s be real, for a lot of people it’s not just part...it’s pretty much all of it. And that’s when it’s just outright sad.
