Would depend if you can actively distance. That's why in most states capacity is limited and tables need to be spaced. At the where people are constantly moving around and sharing equipment it's best to use masks. Idk about the police station but my job you have to wear masks and they closed down every other work station.

Mortality rates are an interesting discussion topic, but when you guys do the math based on current confirmed cases and current deaths, realize the mortality rates lag the tests by on average, 4 weeks. There's also a reporting lag to the deaths that is much longer than the reporting lag positive test results. Test results are almost real time.

That may not seem important, but for that death rate of 4% to be close to accurate, it would mean that if you are going to die, then your death would occur the instant you got your positive result. That why the % of confirmed cases that will likely result in death is actually significantly higher than the 4%.

I suspect that's true in all countries and differences in how good reporting is, how delayed it is in each country, the amount of testing and who is getting tested, all will make direct comparisons difficult.

I've seen overall mortality rate calculations from as low as .6% up to 1.5%. So something around 1% is a fair guess. The bottom line is that deaths per day in states with increasing confirmed cases will go up significantly with a 4 to 5 week lag. We're just seeing the beginning of that.

Whether deaths will track closely with the increasing confirmed cases will also depend on how much testing is being done in those states and whether the ratio of undiagnosed to confirmed cases is changing, and whether we have hospital beds. Odds are the deaths per day will be double in 5 weeks because new cases per day are about double what they were 5 weeks ago. Could be worse if hospitals run out of capacity. Could be better if we get better at treating the illness.

Indoor dining should not be allowed since most restaurants don't have ventilation that can filter out aerosolized particles several times an hour. Outdoor dining should be low risk if spaced well.

Bars would be fine if you're willing to wear good a mask and can drink through a straw while wearing it. Kinda sucks if you like salt with your margarita. Otherwise, no. Bars are very high risk.

Gyms could safely be open with masks required all the time. Fans in gyms don't filter the air, and masks aren't dangerous to wear while exercising. If people can't do quite as much wearing a mask, they'll learn to deal with it.
