I don't think Rolex has slim margins so much as they just control the pricing far stricter than just about anybody else. I think 40% margin is about standard, but I could be wrong. No idea how it works for Tudor, but it gives you (Venom08) a good idea of how far you can go.

I want to try making some casual-ish straps that will go well on divers. the sort of thing that you'd put on a Pam on a nice summer day.
as well as trying to make some canvas straps, because I just think they look amazing on the right watch.
hopefully I'm not **** at it
Who knows, maybe if I get good enough I can hook some misc brahs up with some cheap custom straps 😉*says 'negged' but doesnt actually neg crew*

It's a fantastic watch, it's quite understated which can be a pro or con depending on your style. That being said it changes its look dramatically between the bracelet and a strap. I just bought a leather strap for my black bay:
I really like them, I guess that's all that matters. Love the bling of the fluted bezel.

as an Oris owner, and having worn my Oris over my seamaster and all other watches I own at least 80% of the time since I bought it 3 years ago, I'd go for the black Bay.
Oris make fantastic watches, but most of what's great about them is that their pieces are cheaper than guys like TAG whilst being at minimum on par for quality (I'd say better, but I'm biased) . 5k for an Oris I could never justify if a Tudor is also on the table.*says 'negged' but doesnt actually neg crew*

The progress so far on my first attempt at a canvas strap.
still only my second strap (the first one was plain leather, but the edges were crap and the stitches weren't straight, so y'all don't need to see that).
black canvas on kangaroo leather.

doesn't really need it. all together, it's 2 layers of 'roo leather and 2 layers of canvas all the way down, and at the lugs where it's folded over, 3 layers of leather, 4 of canvas.
the plain tan leather one I shoddily constructed 2 days ago without any canvas is easily thick enough to be right at home on my 45mm, 15.5mm thick deep blue daynight diver
plus if I tried that with my current skill level I'd only fuk it up lol*says 'negged' but doesnt actually neg crew*

well, here's the basically finished strap, apart from punching the holes.
unfortunately, when I cut the strips for the long piece, I forgot to account for the extra thickness that the canvas will give it when wrapped around, but I figured I could just compress it a bit at the lug end and squeeze it in.......
.... except that the rest of the strap won't even fit through the 22mm buckle on the other side...
only option I can see is to wait until my edge finishing stuff arrives, and simply slice the sides off the strap and replace the wrapped canvas look with a rubbery edge
still looks fukin sick imo
