    Starches vs Sugars

    Does anybody find a distinction between the two? By either terms of energy burn or appetite cravings?

    I feel that I can work up cravings for starchy foods like potatoes, beans, and rice. It's different from a sweet tooth, or at least the flavors between the two groups aren't noticeably consistent.

    This has likely been developed over time, but I expect starches to be part of my meals and make it so. It’s not so much a craving, but my body and stomach knows something is missing if I don’t have them.

    I enjoy sugary stuff but can do without them, and eat them when fate has them cross my path.

    I would say yes on average, but for me the biggest factor is fiber. White rice for example is a starchy carb, but the lack of fiber makes digestion much different.

    Even foods that have a high amount of sugar can digest slower if they’re containing fiber, like certain fruits.

    Fruitcake is a pretty common Boomer term, but "huckleberry" I've definitely never heard. As a fruit, huckleberries are pretty damn good. They're basically blueberries.

    I don't think potatoes are particularly fibrous (nor sweet for that matter), but smaller ones with higher skin-flesh ratio might be different.

    As far as fruit is concerned, apples are probably your first bet. It's just a matter of texture for insoluble fiber.

    Isn't soluble fiber linked to ldl cholesterol rinsing?

    That isn’t the mechanism by which fiber attenuates the accumulation of LDL.

    Fiber forms bulk in the intestines, binding to cholesterol and thus limiting its absorption… that’s the main reason fiber can lower LDL. “Combating buildup” seems to imply it literally removes plaque from arteries…. I’m actually not sure if there is a means to do that at all (literally remove plaque after it’s there), but definitely not via fiber.

    Yeah I googled it after you asked and that's what I found out.

    Ironic, if you google "how to remove tarter," you get endless results telling you to brush regularly.
