Fact: My first-generation uncle was a boxer who fought Sugar Ray Robinson! He also fought in the war, sacrificing the career he deeply loved, so people could have the right to freedom.

Guess what? Kegs (which weigh 165 a piece) still felt as heavy as ever, hand carts of beer still felt the same, I didn’t move any faster. Good work m8 not falling into the trap of thinking if you don’t lift weight you won’t be strong. That is the worst type of bullchit of all the types of bullchit there is.

As a beginner, I honestly don’t care about my numbers as they are meaningless anyway. Only lifted for 8 months anyway and wasn’t trying to be a competitive power lifter.

Nice attempt at trolling tho, maybe that would offend someone who cared?

OP, always gonna have someone trying to talk chit about you depending on your choices of exercise. I guarantee there isn’t a single power lifter regardless of max lifts that can take even an amateur boxer or mixed martial artist regardless of weight class.

There is a reason most boxers and fighters aren’t into bodybuilding, and having all that useless mass will slow them down, but you would be fooling yourself into thinking they aren’t strong.

a fighter is better than a powerlifter/bodybuilder at fighting moon lands on man

put a boxer vs a much bigger boxer with "all that useless mass" and he will make that smaller boxer suck his dick and there isn't anything he can do about it.

Apples to oranges. Nether the less, being good at weightlifting doesn’t mean you’re instantly stronger than someone who doesn’t lift weights to work out.

By useless mass, which I thought would be self explanatory, is the amount of muscle that is put on by bodybuilders that doesn’t serve a purpose to fighters and boxers or really anyone who does anything physical for a living.

It probably does for the average person for your first point, but it would depend on a lot of other things like training age but if you control for all other variables probably the person that lift weights is stronger. Strength is specific to movements however. It's a moot point anyways because it doesn't have to be one or the other and most athletes will program some sort of lifting and weights into their program. And your average guy who is serious about training do bodyweight stuff as well as weights.

Are we talking about roid monsters who are extreme outliers of bodybuilding or natural bodybuilding? Because the former isn't really relevant to 99.9% of the population at all. Isn't really even possible anyways due to boxing and MMA having a heavy cardio component. However you are fooling yourself if you don't think building muscle and strength is important. You can also build almost purely strength with weights with minimal hypertrophy. It's called high intensity, low reps, long rest periods and using more dynamic movements. It's really just cope if you think building muscle doesn't serve a purpose for doing anything physical. Even marathon training requires some general strength training and muscle. weight classes are there for a reason and muscle matters if you want to compete at higher weight classes.

Have just seen so many people that come with the attitude that "you don't need weights at all, weights are BS, weights make you slow, lol at heavy weights" and them doing their lil chitty calisthenics routine thinking its enough and wondering why they get lit up in the ring or on the mat by somebody who is bigger and stronger then them who at least lift 1-2x a week. It's a lot of cope. and the reason why a lot of these guys at the higher level supposedly say they don't lift weights is that they are on that there. why even lift when you can hold onto 8-10 lbs extra muscle by injecting something in your ass. Try telling heavyweight UFC or MMA fighters that having the mass comparable to bodybuilders (Brock Lesnar, Overeem, Ngannou, etc) was useless. They're also probably beating down any lightweight fighting twink in sight.

There is a reason most boxers and fighters aren’t into bodybuilding, and having all that useless mass will slow them down, but you would be fooling yourself into thinking they aren’t strong.

A lot of wisdom in your post, but as I said and has been proven by people such as Hannibal Lanham and Adam Raw, there are more than one way to get strong and it doesn’t always involve external resistance. And progressions in calisthenics are a lot harder that simply adding weight to a bar because they change the whole dynamic of the lift against you (working up to handstand push ups, planche push ups and pistol squats, for example). Nowhere did I mention however that training was useless, just that they’re is more than one way to do it.

    Edit:Repped for the good conversation

I don't think you understand what a woodpecker push up is. This vid is beyond stupid and not many people do it as badly as that, but so many people are no where close to full range of motion.

I don't train fighting. I fix planes and crew them. For fitness I like doing calisthenics and have moved to trying to do advanced stuff. Form is everything, scapular strength is paramount to avoid injuring yourself. You can go ahead and do 100 woodpecker push ups and I am going to guess you can't do 25 full retraction to full protraction push ups.

I am sorry for not being fat. I am 5'11" at 185lbs right now. I actually consider that overweight. Need to get back down to 160lbs. Serious though, the advanced bodyweight stuff (it's more gymnastics than a workout) is probably very out of reach if you weigh anywhere @250lbs. I was actually stronger at 160lbs than I am now at @185lbs. I got injured, lost strength and gained weight lol.

It's funny, sometimes people that are bigger and weigh more are not stronger.

Youre a twink. 185 @ 5’11 being “overweight” you have a skinny or narrow frame. Or estatting height.

I can do the basics, weighted pull ups, muscle ups, wide grip pull ups, dips, one arm hangs, incline push ups ect. Will have to get down to like 220 or so for handstand pushups, but thats the only one Im missing out on

Calisthenics are great for strength/endurance and body awareness and coordination, but not for power.
