Question for you two. How much money should I expect to "do" a 2.7T right before swapping it into my car? I know it'd be best to do the turbos then. Not sure if I want to do K04s or GT28RS/something similar. Water pump, timing belt, and valve cover gaskets are an obvious thing to do that I know of. Rear main seal probably. Etc. Just looking for an estimate of what I should expect to spend if you guys have any idea. The motor would get swapped into my B6 A4. As close to a bolt in motor swap as it gets.
EDIT: Power wise I'd be fully satisfied with mid 300 WHP, which I think should be achievable with stock internals, but would like to build the motor to withstand close to 500 WHP if it's not going to be $5k+ to make that jump.He that lives upon hope will die fasting. -Benjamin Franklin

both my 2.7t's were ko3's. Would get annoyed with the engine and sell the car before doing a stage 3. Got super lucky with my a6 with 140k and stock turbos were fine. If you got the money look into single turbo options. if your on a budget look at Frankenturbos. BlauParts is your friend for belts and pump. Where i got my stuff when i did the timing belt.

If you're good with mid 300s, the K04s are more than enough. Good call on doing a once over of the engine, it's stuff that can easily be done while the motor is out and can keep you rolling for a while. If you're looking at turbos, fueling, exhaust, intake, (intake piping maybe? Intercooler upgrade?), VC gaskets etc. etc. I would guesstimate that $5K should have you covered. Again, this is a rough estimate. But yeah, the B6 body with a 2.7 would be tits. BTW, I put about 450HP/480TQ on stock internals and I've been trouble free so far (knock on ****ing wood lol)
Edit:
I would go ahead and get the Gates timing belt BTW. And don't forget about a good clutch setup. I'm running a South Bend, I like it.Last edited by VW_R32; 01-13-2014 at 07:06 PM.

Dead set on the FX400 and a steel single mass for clutch setup. Currently have a Southbend stage 3 on my stock 3.0 V6 per previous owner. Kind of love hate with the clutch. Glad to hear K04 would get me in the range I'd like to be. I've got a S4 Milltek catback on the car currently, would add SSAC downpipes since that's apparently what fits the swap best. Forgot about fueling. Side mount upgrade would be on the list as well, waiting to see how my friend likes his Racing Rabbit or whatever the brand is called. Price point seemed reasonable on them, and I'm not big on jamming front mounts where they don't fit. I'll be getting a 2.7 motor basically for free, and if it means having something as reliable as my stock 3.0, I'll definitely take the extra time to spend $5k on getting the motor ready. It's a terrible thing as a car enthusiast but I never do anything without considering resale and I think I could easily come out even with what I have into the car when it comes time to sell, including a 2.7 build and swap. It has air ride, it has custom interior work, it has a bumpin stereo, power is the last major thing on the list. What's your current setup to push 450HP?

Would you recommend the Tial 605s? I know 770s is overkill for what I'm looking for, but didn't know if running the 605s slightly under what they're capable of would be laggy/a pain in the ass.
Edit: Cool tidbit. Local car is pushing a hair under 700HP with 770s. The car is an absolute monster. Owner also has a 450whp VRT MK2 Jetta. He is doing things right. He that lives upon hope will die fasting. -Benjamin Franklin

The 770 kit is great, only if you have the internals to handle it. I love my car, it's fast as ****, the 605 kit is not really laggy at all. I'd give you a ride if you were local, but it seems you are really far away lol. TBH, the K04s are probably more along the lines of what you're looking for, they would give you the power that you want along with the reliability that many seek, especially with resale in mind. But then again, the 605 kit is great if you have the money for it.

Resale wise it's gonna go to an enthusiast no matter what, it's an enthusiast car at this point already. As long as Tials are reliable I'd definitely consider them over K04s. I'd just love to to have the ability to get in your power range but run great at 350whp too. Yeah Maine is far away from everything. Might come down to Sowo in May, we'll have to keep in touch since it seems like you're near that area from your Tail of the Dragon pics.

Prepped this 2003 GTI for sale over the weekend, thought I'd share the results. It's for sale in DMV area 134k miles...asking price of $5,000. PM and I'll get you in contact with the owner.

new S3 should be awesome. Same wheelbase as the b5 s4. Interior is epic. Price is a bit steep but then again all S models are.
