I heard they're turning central park into an emergency hospital? Not sure if that's just a rumor.

What you’re saying makes sense, but what doesn’t make sense is how panicked the woman in the video was about “we don’t know where we are going to get ventilators from. We got 5 and that’s enough for today, maybe tomorrow, but what do we do after that?”
Meanwhile governor is saying they have 1,000 in storage ready for use. So it’s a little over dramatic to say you’re worried about ventilators tomorrow or anytime in next couple weeks when you have 200x what they just received (And didn’t yet need) sitting in storage.

She's possibly panicked because she doesn't know when the next set of ventilators will come through. It's possible that suddenly a bunch of patients crash, more patients than there are ventilators for. Then what? It then becomes too little, too late. NYC hospitals are barely hanging on.
One of my best buds in a doctor in that hospital's ER. I'll ask him how things are shortly.
At my hospital's ER, it's completely full of patients waiting to get a room upstairs. The waiting room is full of people who should be in the ED. We have a bunch of FEMA strucks at the front entrance.

ehh
I went to the hospital to get tested and it was literally just me and 3 other people.
they had us in these outdoor tents to take our temp and listen to our symptoms etc.
I was one of the only ones to get tested cuz high temp and symptoms.
inside the hospital was a ghost town too. didnt seem busy at all, so shrug.
all those ppl lined up there could easily have a cold.
the reporting of this virus stuff has made people forget that there are other illnesses out there.
lots of fear mongering too.Doordasher crew (SRS)

I was flicking through the channels the other day.
Saw a man being carted through a hospital who had Covid 19 and they had a phukking plastic bag/bubble over his head.
Not sure what country that was.
That was pretty scary.
But I'm also aware the news are into fear mongering and will go out of their way to show you the (possibly) 1 in a million cases that are extremely bad just to get eyeballs....and according to which an ensign might rank incomparably higher than a general, and according to which what was needed for success in the service was not effort or work, or courage, or perseverance, but only the knowledge of how to get on with those who can grant rewards, and he was himself often surprised at the rapidity of his success, and at the inability of others to understand these things

Humans not understanding exponential growth has been the case since its existance. What makes you think we can just flick the switch and understand it?
This lack of understanding pervades almost everything:
- having a high time-money preference (consumption vs saving).
- on-set of disease from bad habits
- compound curves in road design
- disruption by technology (i.e. my job can never be replaced by a machine!)
- hyperinflation
+ countless others
Small changes over time condition people against rapid short term changes until it is already too late.

Exactly, feel more sorry for the poor people in the supermarkets who didn't get a clapping night last week & won't get one. Didn't even get a mention from Boris when he was praising NHS staff & other key workers. They signed up to work in a shop stacking shelves & working the tills, not to come into contact with thousands of people that could be carrying something that kills them &/or their family members-likely more than your average nurse or doctor daily. The look of fear in the faces of some of the Tesco workers when I was in there last week was a horrible visual, along with that they have to put up with idiots asking why/having a go at them because the shelves are empty, people spitting & coughing at then on purpose etc for minimum wage.
