Impressive as it is, it IS NOT raw. He used straps. Benedikt Magnussen still holds that record with mixed grip and belt at 1015.

    Inb4 elephant bar

Elephant bar has more flex so easier off floor but generally harder to pull if it’s not a smooth pull (whips up and down). This suits some people better but I’d still say it’s harder (martins recently said so too).

I think Eddie hall 500 would have failed at the top with a d elephant bar, it would have been bouncing like crazy.

They my call it raw strongman (as dumb as that seems) which also would allow hitching and excludes sumo.

Yeah I’ve always disliked even looking at sumo deadlifts.

Thors 480 kg. Is mad impressive. How many guys can even do 434 and he does it with absolute ease.
However I think I saw some movement with his foot, and the lift looked pretty heavy for him (well, obviously), so it’ll be very interesting to see if he can take the 501 at the ASC, seeing as the deadlift event is 4th.

When Eddie pulled 1102 it was without the elephant bar, pretty sure it was with an Eleiko power bar. Personally I believe they were correct to keep the elephant bar record and strongman record separate.

Again not trying to say it wasn’t impressive or take anything away from the Mountain

I agree with you on this which is rare among powerlifters. Sumo is cool, but it's just not comparable to conventional. They're quite literally two completely different lifts.

They should remove anything that makes people role their eyes and not respect the lift. It's the same way I feel about the extreme arch on the bench press. A normal amount of arch is OK with me and can still impress me, but there's always going to be people who exploit the rules and take it to the extreme and end up with a 2 inch range of motion bench or sumo deadlift. It obviously defeats the spirit of what powerlifting is supposed to be.

John Haack uses a close grip bench with basically no arch and has like a 2 foot range of motion 500+ bench.

Sean Noriega uses a max legal width grip bench with a ridiculous arch and literally has a 2 inch ROM 500+ bench.

Gee I wonder whos more impressive.

Its good to see a powerlifter agree and not just follow the crowd.

It pisses me off so much that that phaggot broke Ed coans record with that chitty sumo. Very sad to watch, it had been standing since 1984. Iys part of the reason I'll never get into powerlifting. Too many inconsistencies in regards to form as you said.

I love John haack, he's probably my favorite. I like Tom Martin too. Anyone that performs great lifts and makes them look majestic I automatically gravitate towards, all those coping lifts that try to find a legal loop hole and contort themselves are a fukin joke. Powerlifting should have addressed this chit a long time ago.

They actually did try last year. One of the proposals for rule changes was to make arching in the bench illegal, but they decided there was no good way to objectively judge what was and wasn't an arch. Which is true. Since retards are always going to exploit the rules we should just remove bench press from powerlifting and replace it with standing streict press. That'll never happen though.

In strengthlifting (a small off-shoot of powerlifting) they don't allow sumo deadlifts. Squats aren't allowed sleeves, they do standing press instead of bench press and conventional deadlifts only. It's what powerlifting should be.

It's time to acknowledge Thor is on par with peak Eddie in the deadlift.

Eddie's a good dude but he's still the kid with an inferiority complex trying to prove something

I like him and he's great for promoting the sport but he's off the mark about a few things.

Says Savickas is the "greatest strongman to ever live" but he's the strongest to ever live. Talks about missing his log press WR by the skin of his teeth but when they put a 450lb log on the stage he couldn't get one rep while Savickas pressed it 4 times. The guy had a metric fukton of power in reserve. He didn't go chasing records like Eddie.

Savickas didn't need to talk himself up. In fact I never heard him talk until after he'd break a record and they'd put a microphone in front of him.

    2:30 says it all:
