In their defense, what other defense do they honestly have? All they can say is this is a politicized investigation led by Trump and targeting his opponents. They will conveniently leave out that it is an investigation into how the obama admin weaponized intelligence to spy on trump... the hypocrisy of it all.
These people are in a world of trouble.

Flynn was part of the obama admin (I believe DIA). He was a vocal opponent to the iran deal and found himself on the obama teams hit list. Flynn knew too much, and their goal was to destroy the man. They started by circling the usual spies (halper, etc.) around Flynn and planting false stories about him having an affair or having nefarious conversations with a russian woman dating way back before the election. As McCabe allegedly said in a meeting "first we fcuk flynn, then we fcuk trump." It was a way for them to flex their muscles, give Mueller's investigation the appearance of credibility, and to ruin a political opponent.
The larger story here is widespread political surveillance of political opponents under obama and targeting of these opponents with foreign spies to dirty them up as needed. Much like they weaponized the IRS against conservatives, they did the same with weaponization of the intelligence community. It wasn't specific to Trump, he just became the top priority once he won the republican nomination.
Flynn got absolutely fcuked over by a rogue group of investigators and he finally has a lawyer who is fighting back. His case is going to be tossed, just like every other case that mueller's team actually brought to court.
The alternative is to believe that Flynn actually did something criminal, like lie to strzok and pientka (they said he didn't in their 302s) about a legal conversation that he had with the russian ambassador, all while knowing full well that the FBI had the transcript of the conversation the whole time.

What's wrong with that?
He did lie.
Edit: His admitted statements of offense are online.

Do you know who Steven Hatfill is? He was wrongly accused of sending Anthrax to people after 9-11.
Mueller mentally tortured him so badly he considered suicide (Steve truly believes that was what the FBI was attempting to do).
You can read about it here: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine...ng-man/308019/
If you see what Mueller's FBI did to Hatfill, you can see the same M.O. with regards to Manafort/Flynn/Ppapapdaopolus/etc. etc. He loves to leak to the press for example. He did that multiple times with Hatfill, and of course, Trump's people.
Oh yeah, I should mention the next person Mueller accused of sending the Anthrax letters did commit suicide.
Does that matter?Republicans are weak men who pretend to be strong
Democrats are strong men who pretend to be weak

Sidney Powell has more than proved that the FBI had no predicate for interviewing Flynn in the first place, did not alert him that there was a criminal investigation, and that the FBI already knew the answer to all questions because they had the call transcript.
They carefully coordinated for 2 weeks how to interview flynn.
Afterwards, they manipulated the 302s to give the appearance of a lie. They failed to file the 302s within 5 days as required, and state that they conveniently "lost" the original.
After manipulating the 302s and bringing charges for lying, they simultaneously pressure other offices to enter FARA charges on FLynn. (the FARA case was brought to court on Flynn's partner, and it was thrown out by the judge because it was complete BS).
In addition, Rosenstein allowed Mueller the authority to go after Flynn's son, who just had a baby and just started a business. ON what grounds, you might ask? None, other than to pressure flynn into a plea.
So they manufacture a lying charge, simultaneously manufacture a FARA charge (one that was thrown out of a court), AND threaten to go after his son all while withholding evidence they had in their possession (brady evidence) that they are required to procedure indicating his innocence.
THAT is how a rogue intelligence community works. As schumer said, "they have 6 ways from sunday to get back at you."
Trump survived that level of corruption in their investigation into him, yet they are trying it again with these impeachment schenanigans.
Read the latest court filing by Sidney Powell, it is a nuclear bomb on what is left of team mueller.

Well, he hasn't been sentenced so it's hard to argue he has been "convicted."
Sidney Powell is going to get the case thrown due to prosecutorial misconduct, which has more than been established.
If that fails, he will withdraw his plea and they will fight it out in court. I think there is a 0% chance it goes this route.
Mueller's team will be lucky if they don;t face charges themselves when this is all said and done.
