Pretty cool technology. Bit of a random choice of games to launch the tech with, but it will be interesting to see what gets updated in the future. Obviously back compat perks aren't a system seller, but it's still neat and helps keep older games feeling fresh. Some games I hope they do this to in the future: Okami HD, Lost Odyssey, Sonic Generations, older Assassins Creeds, Arkham series, sunset overdrive, RDR2, Dark souls 3.
Their back compat team has done this with resolution for several years, but not frame rate until now. They have also done Auto-HDR for games that weren't originally built with HDR in mind.
As they enhance more games maybe we could be seeing 4k/120fps HDR versions of original Xbox games that were 480p/30fps.

This is dope and exactly what these consoles need to be doing with the extra power and lack of new titles available. I have replayed many games when upgrading pc hardware just to experience a better play through and see the differences in old vs new. To me personally that can make some games completely worth a second play through. 30 vs 60 fps is completely night and day imo.
The choice of games at start is odd but I guess you have to start somewhere. Microsoft out here with big dick energy. Hopefully they'll do it to some titles people really wanna play again.Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

Backwards compatibility has always been one of the biggest selling points on Xbox for me. Even before Game Pass was ever a thing it's what got my attention, it takes games a long time to release these days and even after they release it often takes months of patching until they feel finished. Being able to play my favorite older games or some games that I missed out on back in the day with enhanced graphics on the same console I can play the latest games on? Hard to go wrong with that.

Pretty dope feature tbh. I was playing older games and I was like chit, this looks better than before.
Xbox been killing this generation in my eyes. Curious to see how their IP's launch this upcoming year.*Mechanical Engineering Crew*

It's cool. MS has done backwards compatibility better than Sony but I have played just 1 PS4 game that doesn't have a PS5 patch since getting my PS5. I really don't think the majority of people are all that interested in playing these old games.
Realistically what percentage of gamers do you think want to play these games today? Serious question. I'd say 10% max of Xbox only crew, and 1% max of people who own both a Xbox and PS5.

I really have no idea. I haven't played Prey but have heard good things about it. same with dishonored. It doesn't matter much to me, as this is a feature I'm valuing and will enjoy trying these games.
I'm glad MS are still updating "legacy" games for ps5 though as well. Outer Worlds got a 60fps patch today on both ps5 and xbox. Although MS and Sony are obviously in direct competition, I enjoy games and features from both of them. If they are both doing things I like, I'm a happy consumer.-Engineering Crew

Count me in as one who is interested and happy as hell they've done this.
Never played any of the Bethesda games and now that they're all on Gamepass I'm 200 hours into Skyrim SE, which looks and plays amazing with all the mods. Game is so damn good I estimate another couple months of just this game before calling it quits.
Plan on Fallout 4 next.

You wouldn't get it since Sony doesn't give a fuk about gamers enough to do this. Lots of people enjoyed those games enough for a second play through esp if that second play through is with much better graphics and fps.
'no good modern exclusives' what are you playing on ps5? Your 45th playhrough of tlou2? Playing for all the trophies? Spiderman again? Your 13th playhrough of that?
Lmaoooo ps5 crew is just literally crying themselves to sleep these days.
It will be ok I promise.
Xbox = our cocks are so big here's some upgraded games you don't even give a **** about but we do it anyways with plenty more to come in the future.
Ps5 = we won't even make Warzone the most popular multi player game on the market 120fps. Or anything that isn't new and exclusive. No upgrades for anything last gen. You can play Spiderman and shut up.Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

I guess it's a good thing you don't have time to play since there isn't **** to play on ps5.
Yeah I wanted to play both of them... And they turned out bad... I didn't develop those games so I don't care lmao. You ever been excited for a game and it turned out bad? Ok then.
Again the cope you are showing is soooo painfully obvious. Imagine being so low on fuel to insult me with that you have to resort to a thread I made about not being able to get anthem to work when it launched... Over a year ago... Yikes lmao! You can't even get that dip**** brain of yours to process any meanfingful insult other then... You wanted to play anthem... Yeah I did cause it looked dope... So did a few million other people lmfao.
Luckily on my platform of choice there's so many ****ing games to choose from I don't need to be upset when aaa games come out and suck. But have fun with Spiderman and the last of us 2... Again. Be sure to post the screenshot in the PS5 thread when you get all the cool trophies!Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

Well, I think the frame rate boosts are just one piece of what has people excited. 9/10 of the games the got the boost are not a decade old though, although I think I understand your point about them not being new releases, therefore not as exciting to as many people. I think people are excited because MS had a 180 attitude shift towards gaming lately. The vibe is just completely different than the launch of last gen.
Although I think MS has slowly been improving first party output, they don't really have any great narrative driven third party games action adventure games, which is what Sony excels at, and is certainly a big hole in MS's ecosystem. Do you think maybe it's just that the games MS has released that have been received well, just aren't up your alley? In the past three years Forza Horizon 4, Ori 2, Wasteland 3, Flight Sim, Gears Tactics, Sea of Thieves (not at launch, but they cleaned it up and it's turned into a success), and Gears 5 have all been received pretty well and are vastly different types of games. I'm no fanboy btw, I had a ps4 instead of xbox last gen, and it had some of my favorites on it (Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, God of War).
I just think maybe you have your taste (which is fine) or don't know they have had games that have reviewed well recently.Last edited by ScramFranklin; 03-17-2021 at 02:01 PM.

In your rush to ramble in anger you appear to have missed the point that I have too many games to play.
I mean everyone has their taste but PS4 vs X1 software is a clear win for Sony based upon majority opinion, reviews and awards. Xbox having chit for software is well known and why they have purchased Ninja Theory, Bethesda, etc... Even Phil Spencer admits his platform has had chit for games compared to the competition the past decade.

I agree that sony has had better overall first party output. That's the whole reason I got a ps4 over xone. I just disagree that xbox has not had any good games come out recently.
When comparing to sony and nintendo, it's certainly been a big weak area for them that they are trying to correct (like you mentioned, Phil has been honest about it).-Engineering Crew

I am sure there are some people who are into it. I just doubt that majority are. I'd bet my life that the majority of gamers with access to both ecosystems don'tgive a chit so it's odd to see some Xboxcels act like upping a decade old game's frame rate is the best thing in the world. TLoU is my favorite videogame ever, no fawking way I consider replaying that 10 year old game at this point if it's not a full remake. There is just too many great modern titles to experience once before replaying 10 year old games is going to be the mindset of most gamers. Fawk, most gamers just wanna play some current popular garbage like Fortnite regardless of tech specs, lol.
Are people unaware that you can play PS4 games on PS5 and many of them have free PS5 upgrade patches? Here are all the Sony published PS4 titles:
Then you have a number of 3rd party titles worth playing. I am playing PS5 version of Control right now (worst game I have played on PS5 thus far BTW, but so far not so bad I am going to stop playing before I beat it)
