Can you absorb calories from oils and lotions through the skin?

I've had some seriously dry skin lately probably because I'm dieting but as I was rubbing some on coconut oil cream on my elbows and hands when I thought about transdermal patches that deliver vitamins and minerals to the body through the skin and I also thought about nicotine patches. Is it possible for the lipids in coconut oil to get into the bloodstream from rubbing it into your skins and be used as calories in the body?

    Thanks for any help.

yes, but the oil must be heated to 80 degrees before the skin can absorb the calories, it doesnt take long to heat it up, but i find that using smaller measurements (100-150ml) yields better results.

Do you mean whenever you reduce your calorie intake you get dry skin?

There is no reason why eating less should result in dry skin.

    I'm immature?

I was asking questions to try to figure out why you were getting dry skin from your diet because all a cut requires is a decrease in calories which should not cause dry skin.

Instead of answering your initial question I was trying to find the source of the dry skin so that you could completely eliminate the problem, but you completely wrote me off and clearly only want to know if you get calories from rubbing stuff on your skin.

I was, in fact, trying to help.

You should be most concerned with the causes of your dry skin.

As for your original query - the amount, if any, would be so marginal that it shouldn't be of concern/consideration. Worry more about your potential health issues (dry skin), instead of your skin absorbing and metabolizing the calories of lotion.

He is not a troll but yeah, there is a trend of asking leading questions to do something that straddles the line of informing and trolling. But so many people get helped it's an acceptable 'loss'.

I think another way to ask would be: Are you cutting back something essential from your diet which is causing the dry skin? One example of a "dieting strategy" would be drastically low fat intake which is a fairly common approach which could cause problems. But if you don't care, there's no more to see here...

Just forget I even said anything about dry skin. All I wanted was an answer to my question if you can adsorb calories from oils being rubbed into the skin, if I wanted to know why I have dry skin I would have made a post asking for help about it.

On a side note, back when I was even more of a idiot then I am now I did very a very low fat diet and my face and hair dried out so bad it looked like I had bad dandruff and my face was literally red and cracked. Upped my fats, started taking fish oils and got back to where a normal human should be and like magic my scalp and face went back to normal too.

I had the same thing happen on 0.3g/lb fats. Upped it to around 0.6g/lb but I found I had better gym performance with higher carbs so I'm gonna give 0.4g/lb a shot. 4 fish oil pills a day

Fat's are so misunderstood! haha I am currently doing 0.5g/lb as my goal but usually I get 0.7g/lb just because I cook with a lot of olive oil now. Good luck!
