Fortnite Lowers Price Of V-Bucks, Adds Direct Pay To Mobile
This morning, Fortnite developer Epic announced it’s permanently lowering the cost of in-game currency V-Bucks across all platforms. It’s also added its own direct payment system to Apple and Android devices, circumventing the App Store and Google Play. It’s the latest move against what Epic calls the companies’ “exorbitant 30% fee” on mobile purchases.
...In late July, Sweeney called Apple and Google “a duopoly” in an interview with Bloomberg, saying, “Imagine a town that only allowed a Target and disallowed any other stores from building. I mean, that’s totally un-American and uncompetitive. But that’s exactly what Apple does in an absolute sense.”

Apple removes Fortnite from App Store
Sauce: https://www.polygon.com/2020/8/13/21...hange-discountToday, Epic Games took the unfortunate step of violating the App Store guidelines that are applied equally to every developer and designed to keep the store safe for our users. As a result their Fortnite app has been removed from the store. Epic enabled a feature in its app which was not reviewed or approved by Apple, and they did so with the express intent of violating the App Store guidelines regarding in-app payments that apply to every developer who sells digital goods or services.
Epic has had apps on the App Store for a decade, and have benefited from the App Store ecosystem - including it’s [sic] tools, testing, and distribution that Apple provides to all developers. Epic agreed to the App Store terms and guidelines freely and we’re glad they’ve built such a successful business on the App Store. The fact that their business interests now lead them to push for a special arrangement does not change the fact that these guidelines create a level playing field for all developers and make the store safe for all users. We will make every effort to work with Epic to resolve these violations so they can return Fortnite to the App Store.
And we have a war brewing...

Epic Takes Legal Action against Apple
Sauce:Rather than tolerate this healthy competition and compete on the merits of its offering, Apple responded by removing Fortnite from sale on the App Store, which means that new users cannot download the app, and users who have already downloaded prior versions of the app from the App Store cannot update it to the latest version. This also means that Fortnite players who downloaded their app from the App Store will not receive updates to Fortnite through the App Store, either automatically or by searching the App Store for the update. Apple’s removal of Fortnite is yet another example of Apple flexing its enormous power in order to impose unreasonable restraints and unlawfully maintain its 100% monopoly over the iOS In-App Payment Processing Market.

Is it any coincidence that soon TikTok and WeChat are banned (both send money back to CCP) and now the TenCent owned company is going to bypass the American companies to get all profits themselves.
Must be a coincidence. Not related at all. Nope.
It is a one way street. lol
Not in the apple store? Can't play it. If people can't play it they can't spend money for Epic to get.
Epic can make their own mobile phone store and ecosystem.Last edited by Suit; 08-13-2020 at 12:55 PM.

Their mommy and daddy buy them their stuff, the kids spend nothing, not even in the game.
You think a trillion dollar mega global corporation is gonna give two craps about some children when their product is pretty much staple for all tech work/jobs? lol come on man.
Epic money is like me giving you a dime, when compared to apple.
Crap, Apple even released a statement before being sued that they were gonna work with Epic. Epic just straight sued. LOL

LMFAOO @ thinking Epic is about to be "squashed like a bug" simply because their game isn't available on the fking Apple app store anymore.
They've made soooo much money off of Fortnite. Not being on one platform of devices isn't **** to them. I'm sure they thought about this possible consequence ahead of time.

Yeah I don't know why he is trying to act like Epic is some small insignificant indie dev, they are probably one of the biggest and most successful companies in the video games industry right now. Fortnite has been a money printer for them and their Unreal Engine is one of the dominant engines used by video game developers everywhere.

Again, there's no way they made this move without weighing in the fact that this would be a possible consequence. If they indeed violated part of Apple's agreement - they knew they were doing so before they did it. You think a company the size of Epic just makes decisions like this without lawyers looking at contracts first? They figured they'd press and see if they got away with it. They're still on every other platform and making fuk tons of money every single day. Not having their game on Apple will not break them in way, shape, or form.

imagine defending the apple store which is blatantly anti-free market and steals 30% from developers
when epic game's own store has proven that you can be profitable with less than half of that
i guess you must be some tax loving liberal ******* to be ok with that
no matter how you feel about epic, if they win the suit this is gonna be great for everybody but apple

but there are a lot of mobile/ipad fortnite players that suddenly can't play now.
android isn't an issue because you can install "unknown" apps from any source, but on apple devices you can only get apps installed through their app store since their operating system is locked down. (don't bring up jailbreak, the tinyest population jailbreaks and its not relevant)
I'm not backing anyone in this situation, apple can suck a fat one and so can epic games. I just don't see how epic games has a "case" in this situation. They are the ones that want to be on apple's store, they must agree to the rules to be on it, and they want to be special and get a different percent than everyone else.*** Free Thinker Crew ***

Good for Epic, people were hating on them when they were making their platform competitive compared to Steam by lowering the royalty fees and waiving UE fees to entice developers in signing exclusivities.
