    Arms - 50

    Hi all

I just turned 50, I have been between jobs over the past two months and missed the gym, did my head in. I lost a hell of a lot of size particularly on my arms. However before that I noticed my arms were not growing and they are not as big as they were a year or so ago. Not sure what going on (don't say age).

Its becoming frustrating now, I have only been back into my routine for about a week now. Any thoughts or tips, or what I could take or should do would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Have you tried dips and pull-ups? For me they do more than free weights.

I say work isolation moves like preacher curls and others that do not allow any cheating. All tension on the bicep/ tricep. Go heavy! Like failure at 6-8 reps. 20 sets for both bicep and triceps

Cheers, actually noticed the other day, I don't think I have been heavy enough, so added more weights and got more of a pump.

Don't do dips right away. It's extremely hard on the shoulders. I'd work on dumbbell presses at lower weight. Something you can do for 15 reps and move down weight by 2.5lb for 5 sets for each press. Incline, high incline, shoulder and overhead.

I lost nearly an inch on the arms when my training took a back seat for a some months, horrible!
Working arms will build arms, that's what worked for me, but you've got to keep at, everything gradually goes back to normal if you don't.

Yeah mate, been back in at it for about 4 weeks now and I am building already, in fact feel stronger than I did before and arm doesn't hurt. Have changed my technique to be more focused and have been going heavier. I think I was getting stale and lazy before, so now reinvigorated.

This might not be popular but after much frustration with my arms I final tried doing less. Yes, I said less. I've been on that path for about 3 months and I continue to see positive results.

If I want my tendonitis to worsen ,all I need to do is isolated tricep exercises . Sorry I have no good ideas OP.
I do arm curls without any issues though . The only workout my triceps get is from benching
    Make Misc great again

Good Triceps make up most of the arm and will make the biceps look bigger, so don't forget to develop the triceps. But as the saying goes if you want big biceps, stop training the biceps. The biceps are one of the most over-worked body parts. They can take a lot of repetitions and go the distance, but can be stubborn to grow.

Back in the day I got this advice from a pro-card bodybuilder saying if the biceps start to get stubborn, completely stop training them. (Actually this is not a secret but very common advice) Instead start doing alot of pullups, and heavy pulling exercises.

Forgot to add that this is good to do in stages. Of course you want to train biceps, but this is good to do once in awhile.

Its becoming frustrating now, I have only been back into my routine for about a week now. Any thoughts or tips, or what I could take or should do would be appreciated.

    Cheers
Whatever exercise you do, try to apply the mind-to-muscle connection principle. Go slow and go the full R.O.M.

A lot of it is to do with genetics, I workout my triceps as much if not more than my biceps but the biceps remain more impressive. I could show off a good peak well before I even started working out!
The training just added size, if you don't have reasonable biceps in the first place adding size will be much harder.

    Takes time! Lots of time

Worked out hard all year, and was consistent,,, no missed weeks. I am natural. I added 1.25 inches to my arms getting to 17.5 inches. So my goal for 2020 for arms is to get to 18.5,, maybe 19. It just takes time and effort.
