Where do you rate the Gears of War series?

5, 1, and 2 are all very good.
From what I remember 3 was pretty bland and I never played 4 but heard it was just average.

Wasn't a fan of the open areas in 5 but I can see why it was popular as it broke the pace up a little bit.
Make sure you play Hivebusters too, it's short and fun and is possibly the prettiest console game out.

I'm sure 6 will be great too.

1 was incredible, 2 was even better, 3 wasn't as good but still delivered on story. Judgement is an absolute piece of crap and is a prequel to 1. Gears 4 introduced a new story, and was good, but I felt like it wasn't needed. Gears 5 throws more of a twist and takes a more open world format as opposed to a linear progression.

Gears 1 to Gears 3 is a GOAT Xbox Franchise IMO, probably Top 5/10 for sure. The new stuff isn't as good and the gameplay is really limiting in terms of what you can and can't do, so it's hard to introduce new mechanics that won't break the older ones. It's pretty much mirrored with Halo srs. OG Trilogy is GOAT status, and then the second trilogy gets lost in the sauce.

I would rather play Gears 1 Ultimate Edition over anything else. Source: Former GoW 1, 2, 3 Competitive Player and winner of many 1v1 sniper tournaments. Used to be boys with MilkBone, Nismojoe, LikeButter, DemonPunisher, etc.

I didnt like 3 to be honest .... Judgement looked awful, glad I never got it. Gears 4 was a complete bore .... here's a new enemy, oh wait its just reskinned enemies from the previous game. 5 was more of the same, but the graphics are insane tho ... I didnt even bother finishing 5.



Gears 1 and 2 are probably one of the best and most fun I've had in a co op game tho.

I like 2 and 5 the best. Heard really good things about 5's dlc, although it's short. Wasn't sure about The Initiative taking over since I didn't think 4 was great, but I really enjoyed 5.

4 had the best multiplayer. 5 and 2 had the best campaigns. People sleep on these games IMO, but they're niche. No other game provides the same kind of PvP Gears does.

First game was great, 2nd was a step downwards for sure but playable, and further regression from there. Just because it's been a stale mediocre franchise for a decade now shouldn't overshadow how great that first game was, truly one of the best games at the time. But just like Halo it's a case that MS needs to kill franchises they can't evolve within and just move on to new IP.

Number 1 I got on day one and played it with a few miscers and randoms. It had So much hype behind it. It lived up to it at the time. I got the second day one too but didn’t really **** with it too much. Was busy drinking, using drugs and using women at the time which I say not out of pride, or shame tho it’d be more the latter.

This is actually a legitimate point OP. My earlier post was about PVE which is S tier in the original trilogy but competitive multiplayer is chit tier for balance (or at least was back then). The coop multiplayer Horde mode (basically COD zombies) is great too.

Back in the day me and the boys would do Gears Horde mode then jump over to Halo for some Deathmatch. Good times.

What percentage of OG GoW fans play modern GoW? I don't know a single person who still plays.

Gears is my #2 Xbox franchise, and in my top 5 of all time franchises.

It's definitely fell off, haven't even played GoW5 yet, but I will never forget the countless hours spent playing with my brother and high school friends on 1 and 2, absolutely crushing with the longshot and torque bow on Canals and Gridlock.

As said, 1-3 are GREAT games. I pretend Judgement wasn't a real game. 4 was boring, 5 slightly better but not much. The MP in 5 was okay, but the campaign outside going to the lab was bland.

The only one which I rate low is 'Judgement' which was partly developed by 'People can Fly' and was basically nothing like 1-3 in all the worst ways..no horde (replaced by some lame chit where you have to protect a series of locations from the horde, or attack depending on your side), MP was pretty dire. Story was boring and forgettable.

I would say Gears 2 has the strongest and most interesting story mode, then 1, 3, 4 and 5 (I didn't like the whole open world thing, Gears is meant to be frantic and focused, not flying round a huge map on some surfing contraption).

I actually like the MP on 5. Horde is crazy (and easier) with all the upgrades and boosts available.
