    Arrow Bit confused about Cutting

Hi guys, I have stopped eating meats. So, my option is to eat veggies and different types of beans. I am currently in India. How should I cut because eating just veggies won't fullfill my calories need. They have something similar to peta bread made of whole wheat flour, I tend to eat that because veggies don't fill me up by itself.

Is fish seriously not considered meat? But yeah, I'm used to indian cuisine containing a lot of rice and oils(fats). Not hard to reach caloric goals with that.

It depends, some people (myself) are pescetarian which means we are basically the same as a vegetarian however we do eat fish/seafood. This is mainly because i was having trouble meeting my macros and staying healthy. I do try to avoid fish if possible but sometimes its just to hard.

in most circles people who call themselves Vegetarians, do not eat Fish/seafood, or anything with meat.

I meet my macos with protein powder, beans, fish, veggies, soy alternatives (veggie burgers, veggie 'chicken', Tofurkey etc...) Some dairy, but i try to avoid that as well.

IMHO if you are becoming a vegetarian to lose weight you have probably made the wrong choice, i think you would have an easier time if you ate some turkey, and chicken, and lean red meat in moderation, along with veggies etc.

If you are doing it for moral reasons then congrats, keep it up, and will really enjoy it

The title and premise of this thread makes absolutely no sense. OP, if you can't get enough calories to "cut" then what the hell are you doing when you are not cutting? How do you even need to cut if you have been eating at a caloric deficit while not intentionally cutting.

    I don't get it.

You've dieted down from 200+ lbs and don't grasp the concepts yet?

I used to live in US and eat meats but now I moved to India where the animals aren't kept in clean settings. I don't really want to get some sickness from bad unhygienic meats.

What does this issue have to do with cutting specifically? I could understand if protein was your concern, but I don't get not being able to consume enough calories to cut. That would imply that you definitely aren't getting enough calories to maintain, and thus you will be "cutting" whether you want to or not.

Cutting is losing weight. Bulking is gaining weight.

I know the bread you're talking about- nan- and it's delicious. You should read the "Fat Loss for Noobs" thread which is stickied in this forum.

Since he was 188lbs in '09, I assume he's trying to gain, not cut.

But he's eating Indian food. Dat dere colon cleanse with every bite. Not a single calorie was digested that day.

I'm pretty sure he's trying to cut, as here is a post from a few months back:

Yeah, as previous posters said “cutting” means cutting weight, which is achieved by expending more energy than you ingest. In the bodybuilding/aesthetic context, there is a little more that is implied (specifically, muscle preservation, thus the focus on protein and lifting). But the basis is always the creation of a caloric deficit.

The simple fact of the matter, is if you can't fulfill your caloric needs to sanely cut right now, your weight would be dropping like a stone and you wouldn't have found yourself at 5'7” 200lbs again. If you honestly needed more (non-meat) calories in your diet, which I suspect isn't the case, something like a few TBS of olive oil drizzled on your vegetables would accomplish it no problem.

The problem is rarely that one isn't eating enough to lose weight, it's that he is eating too much relative to his activity. And eating too little is most certainly not responsible for one getting overweight and the source of my confusion in the OP. While I can fathom some issues you might potentially have in getting typical body-building recommended level of protein, and achieving satiety on a meatless diet at cutting calorie targets, I imagine some combination of dairy/legumes/supplemental protein should make it readily achievable.

After re-reading your OP, I suspect you are confusing satiety (fullness) with “caloric need”. They are not one and the same, especially if your goal is weight loss. In this case, nan probably isn't the best bang for your satiety buck (and yes it's great to soak s&*T up with), but you should be able to keep it as somewhat a staple. You just need to be sufficiently accurate in your calorie intake estimations.
