saggitle as doing a Db curl(flexion) or Db Extension (extension). Moving forward with walls on either side.
Frontal as in side shuffle or db side raises (abduction). Moving side to side as if you have a wall in front of you and behind you
Transverse is anything rotational. swinging a bat, joint rotations ect..

    Hi Bradster and Friends,

I've just got through chapter 6 and was wondering if I needed to know every foam roll, static, active, and dynamic stretching techniques movements in detail, or what should I expect from this chapter to be on the test?

    Thanks again!

That is a pretty important part( the amount to hold, sets and reps) and probably is at least 5 of the questions.

Remember to look at the tables on each stretching technique for summaries on the numbers you need to know.

so i went back to the study guide to figure out this typo in the core training program design Table

If you look at the amount of sets your suppose to do for core-strength exercise it says 2-4sets in the text book while the study guide says 2-3sets

The other tables for balance and reactive say 2-3 sets so i figure this is a typo.

Just got upset at this because i got it wrong on a practice quiz! something as simple as this could mean failing the test!!!

post up any typos you guys have found

Chapter 6 study guide, section 6-3 asks the question, "The client's arms fall forward during an overhead squat assessment. You are designing a Phase 3 program in the strength level of the OPT model. What type of flexibility training will this require?", but doesn't include the answer in the answer key. It just says "arms fall forward:" I'm not sure if this is a typo but question 1's answer in this section says "feel turn out: corrective flexibility". Just kinda weird.

The NASM director told me to always go by the book as the study guide and videos may be outdated and errored. I found a blatant error on heart rate in a video and called them, they said they couldnt remake the entire video for it.

And goodluck on final exam superOIRAM!

Remember to reread my opening posts for the most common types of questions. Antetior pelvic tilt and the inner most layer of muscle are on almost every test.

Also proofread your anwsers BUT NEVER change them unless you know 100% something else is correct. Your first instinct is usually correct especially if you really studied, I did my exam in 20 something minutes.

Passed. Boom. Thanks to everyone in this thread for the help especially Bradster(both those questions were on my test haha). There were some questions that seemed very vague and a few that i honestly did not recognize at all. Other than that i felt good about it, glad I'm done.
Things I probbaly should have known better:
Macronutrient recommendations in BOTH g/lb and g/kg, only knew g/kg well and unsure of g/lb
NASM professionalism/ethics and also Running a successful PT business etc(knew this generally but not as specific as some of the Qs)

And on a completely unrelated note I finally get my new(used) car tomorrow

Congratulations! I'm currently reviewing the book and I don't even see where it goes over the necessary macronutrient recommendations for grams per pound. I guess knowing the grams per kilogram will still prove helpful because you would only need to multiply (or divide) by 2.2 to establish the difference.

What about running a successful personal training business specifically? Once again, having a difficult time finding any material relating to this in the text.

    Thanks, brah!

Awesome buddy , sounds like everything in lifes working great for you , keep it up and run with it! The questions you didn't recognize at all were probably research questions not specifically taught in the material and just used for future testing. Theres 20 of these and they do not count towards or against your score.

That reminds me too on RDA for water you should know all variations of measurement : 96 ounces, 3 quarts or 8-12 cups per day.

Ill throw these out there real quick since after the test your usually drained and ready to relax lol.

Chapter 15 is nutrition and here are the locations for the macro nutrient RDA.

Protein- Page 426 half way down and table 15.2( they like to ask endurance athlete questions)
    Carbohydrates- Page 432
    Fats or Lipids- Page 438

On running a personal training business that's Chapter 18 Professional Development The main thing to recognize here is the READ system but everythings important on the test and in your goals after you pass, its solid information.

Passed my test yesterday on my first attempt..

I ended up marking 27 questions i wasnt 100% sure of.. i assume most of those were research questions.

My exam only had about 5 questions from the chart on 169.

The biggest chunk from mine was knowing the exercises.

This thread was a huge help, thanks OP and others who contributed.

Most, if not all of the free questions were on there too.

Congratulations! Once you take the exam you can really understand the threads relevance. I try to help as much as possible while still leaving hard studying to do.

I don't know about hard, but there were a surprising amount of questions pertaining to program design including broken down exercise type (reactive, balance, stabilization, strength, power, etc...), reps, sets, etc...

Know the differences between the stabilization, strength, and power specific exercises of ALL training concepts (cardiorespiratory: translating heart rate zones into stages, core, balance, reactive, and resistance). A couple that I can recall that came up are as follows...

Which of the following is a Reactive-Strength exercise?

    a)Squat Jump with Stabilization
    b)Tuck Jump [CORRECT ANSWER]
    c)Ice Skaters
    d)Lunge Jump

For a client in phase I of the OPT Model, what is the proper set range for Reactive-Training Concepts implementation?

    a)0-4
    b)1-3 [CORRECT ANSWER]
    c)2-3
    d)3-5

I would suggest going over the progressions/regressions of stabilization/balance exercises, as well.

Know little things such as the following...

The purpose of a business: to create and keep customers
The READ System: Rapport, Empathy, Assessment, Development
Directive questions: Directive question can only be answered with a "yes" or "no".
Nondirective questions: Questions with answers that aren't "yes" or "no".
    Objective Information: Measurable data.
Subjective Information: Information clients give you in regards to occupation, lifestyle, medical history, and personal information.
Structure/Function of the heart: Pages 41-42
What % of communication is physiological (55%), tone (38%), and words that are actually spoken (7%) (all 3 were questions on the test).
Davies Test: Clients with weak shoulders (or with shoulder injuries) can't complete.
Shark Skill Test: Know the faults in which you'd be penalized for .1 seconds.
Upper Extremity Strength Assessment: 10lb.-20lb. increase in weight (or 5%-10% body weight).
Lower Extremity Strength Assessment: 30lb.-40lb. increase in weight (or 10%-20% body weight).
Agility/Quickness: Know the difference (both were on the test).
Essential/Non-Essential Amino Acids: How many, which are which, etc...
