Hanging TVs on walls

Just a question for all of you handyman types.

Ideal place to hang a new TV to fit with the furniture arrangement is on an exterior wall. I am concerned that fasteners; lags, bolts or whatever will pierce the vapor barrier. Should I be concerned about that?

First off, I am not an expert. I just do sh!t.. I am assuming you are going directly into the stud, I have done this and drilled pilot holes first. I am hoping the bolts snugged the barrier tight enough to not cause an issue.

Just a brainstorm thing - I'm not experienced with this stuff - but got a double sided tape like the one below off amazon for some shelves (floating kind of) and a few other fixtures. Haven't used it yet but got it since I'm not allowed to drill or any stuff like that where I'm at. There are many variants for different materials and conditions, some waterproof etc so can put up stuff in bathrooms etc. Used industrially so it's not like the tape you find in regular stores and hold a lot of lbs. Smaller pcs supposedly hold 50 lbs+ or something like that. Maybe something to consider? Removing it may be messy though, thought I read can loosen up with heat gun but not sure tbh.

Vapor barrier is on the outside of the house. Just hit studs and you're fine.

Then if your house does in fact have a vapor barrier under the drywall, running a lag bolt or heavy screws into a stud won't really affect anything. If you were worried about it, shoot some caulking into the hole before installing the lag bolts\screws

I should haver mentioned; Under the drywall is a vapor barrier, then the insulation/studs, then there is a silver film covered insulating foam wall board..it is sealed really tightly with tape at all joints. then the brick. My instinct is that hitting a stud square and dead center would be fine, but I am not sure they are located conveniently. Admittedly I dont know much about the frame/bracket choices.

Get a stud finder. Get a bracket that there are slots for the screws so you can be sure that things line up. Standard framing the studs will be 16" on center however don't count on it. A stud finder will tell you for sure.

All of my TV's (5 in totall) are mounted to the walls. Biggest is an 80" smallest in my office is a 40". The rest are 55" None of them were aligned with any studs. But I used anchor screws/nuts on all of them.

If you don't have a stud finder but have a really strong magnet you might be able locate the nails/screws and mark them in soft pencil, then join the dots and you have the studs

The Anchors are not that long, I doubt they will hit it. My 80 inch TV is on an exterior wall, I didn't hit the studs, just used 8 anchors 4 on the top 4 on the bottom of the bracket.
