Conor Mcgregor is a very polarizing and controversial figure in mixed martial arts.
Most people will agree he is a terrible role model and bad ambassador for the sport, assaulting elderly people, sexual assault allegations, smashing fans phones, shoving Bellator referees, Islamophobic remarks, offensive trash talking, throwing metal dollies at buses, arrogance etc. He is probably the complete opposite of humble respectful guys like GSP and Robert Whitaker, which is why people crap on him 100x more when he loses.

Now, how will you remember him as a fighter? What is his legacy in your eyes?

-Will you remember him for knocking out Jose aldo (unbeaten for 10 years) in record breaking time?
-Will you remember him as the first ever simultaneous double champion?
-Will you remember him for his trilogy with Nate?
-Will you remember him for getting his ass whooped in front of the whole world by Khabib and tapping multiple times?
-Or will you not give a single crap about him?

I personally think he will be remembered for getting his ass kicked by Khabib. It had 2.5 million PPV buys, which is over twice the amount of people who watched him beat aldo. He should have stayed retired after beating Eddie. He would have went down as a legend and retire as a winner. He might be richer but the Khabib fight really ruined his stock and tough guy image.

He beat a declining Aldo and Eddie who was one of the weakest lightweight champions in UFC history. We saw what happens to him when he faces Elite level competition like Khabib. He also lost to Nate who's nowhere near a great and won a totally BULLCHIT stoppage against Chad Mendes with like 4 seconds left. He's a good fighter but, highly overrated and definitely not in the discussion for GOAT.

That is true, he finally got Dana to give one of them a higher purse split. They risk broken bones, broken joints and CTE while he takes a huge split of the revenue. Dana will defend his payouts as sound business practices and talk all his expenses and all this chit but bottom line he pays them lower than boxing because he has a near monopoly on the sport. There isnt even competition against teams for best players like the NFL, its either Dana's way or fight in some low tier knock off UFC for even less money.

HATED him when he was coming up and at his peak but looking back I can't be mad at the guy he was a great fighter and got paid. I think he was definitely protected on the way up but he was a huge money maker so you can't really knock them for it and he always delivered.

I think he dodged a bullet and caught Aldo when he was on the decline and I think Edgar would've beat him in 2014-15 but it never happened. I don't think Edgar would've ever beat Aldo because his style was poison to Frankie.

When was the last time you were having any sort of MMA conversation with someone and Conor was mentioned other than matchmaking?

People still talk about GSP. Some call him boring, but that debate still exists. He made a huge impact on the sport, inside the octagon. You remember his performances. I honestly don't remember much about Conor fighting. Some images are there. Few memorable ones. The Jose Aldo KO is most prominent. And that was a flash ko in seconds.

People still debate Fedo's GOAT status. He was iconic for his in ring performance. There's a lasting impact there in the combat sports zeitgeist.

Once Conor calls it quits, I don't see his legacy being anything consequential. He went for the fame and money. He went for the antics. I'm not faulting him that. As an in ring performer though I feel he's never been special.

Yea the Khabib loss is an interesting one, tbh I wasn't shocked when Conor lost that fight nor that disappointed given he has no wrestling credentials. He put up a good fight, started off with nice pressure on Khabib, landed a counter knee to his takedown in round one but once Khabib gets a hold, it's pretty much a wrap.

People always mention that flash ko against Aldo was lucky, and that Aldo was past his prime then in 2015, but Aldo is still fighting nowadays and looks in champion form.
