This is your new president. He thinks burger flippers that live in the lowest cost of living areas should make the same as the people in the highest cost of living areas. He also knows this will slow down the relief bill and hurt even more small business.President-elect Joe Biden’s plan for pandemic relief contains a $15 minimum wage mandate which Congress has estimated would lead to the loss of 1.3 million jobs.
Biden introduced the minimum wage provision in a speech laying out his priorities for a tax-payer funded stimulus package to tackle the damage wreaked on the economy by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as the coronavirus.
According to a July 2019 estimate by the Congressional Budget Office, raising the federal minimum wage to $15 would lead to the loss of 1.3 million jobs while boosting the wages of 17 million workers.
“People tell me that’s going to be hard to pass. Florida just passed it. As divided as that state is, they just passed it. The rest of the country is ready to move as well,” Biden said.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) was less enthusiastic about the bill’s prospects.
“President-Elect Biden served in the Senate for over 35 years. So he knows the plan he outlined tonight can’t pass ‘quickly’ & will delay the 2k for hard-hit Americans. Let’s get the extra money to people first,” Rubio wrote on Twitter.
The minimum wage in Florida is $8.56. The Sunshine State enacted a gradual increase to $15 minimum by 2026, beginning with a boost to $10 in September this year.
Biden claimed that people who work 40 hours per week and make less than $15 an hour are living below the poverty line. According to the 2020 federal poverty guidelines for the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia, an individual taxpayer working 40 hours a week would have to make less than $6.14 per hour to live below the poverty line. The guidelines are different for Hawaii and Alaska, where people working 40-hour workweeks would need to make below $7.06 and $7.67 respectively to live below the poverty line.
“After a year of knocking small business out with lockdowns and restrictions, a $15 minimum wage will be a final nail in surviving businesses’ coffins,” Mark Lobliner, the chief marketing officer of Tiger Fitness, wrote on Twitter. “For large corporations, it will lead to increased automation and a tremendous uptick in unemployment will ensue. Not good.”
The Biden transition team did not respond to an earlier request to explain how the minimum wage mandate would help pandemic-stricken businesses that already struggle to cover the payroll.
With a price tag of $1.9 trillion, Biden’s stimulus bill would fund a campaign to administer 100 million CCP virus vaccine shots in 100 days, reopen the majority of K-8 public schools, provide $1,400 direct payments to individuals, and extend unemployment benefits beyond the end of March, among other provisions.
No matter who is in charge, there are always casualties of politics.
C'mon man, man bad.

A big issue here is the absolutely disgusting, and seemingly unimaginable cooperate greed. How much of a profit margin do you think McD’s would lose if they increased their workers wages to 15/hour, without making any other changes?
I do understand that this same concept does not apply to small businesses and mom/pop shops though. Is that where we are going to see the biggest loss of employment you think?
Instinctively, I feel this is more of a state/local issue as the economy varies pretty significantly across the US.I only read thread titles and my own posts.

Mcdonals already pays $15/hr in CA. But that's because of the cost of living. They also significantly raised their prices here. Just imaging if they had to do that everywhere.
Why spend a minimum on $30K of vocational school for a job that pays $15/hour when you can just go work at Mcdonalds.
It makes zero sense.
Career politicians need to go. I don't have a clue why idiots would elect another one.Last edited by pondus_levo; 01-15-2021 at 10:55 AM.

So attacking small businesses and corporate businesses is the way to go huh? Just curious who wins here in your eyes? Especially when the price of every day items doubles due to i inflation in money and even more with the US taking in less money from lost jobs
You must be proud of your first accomplishment cant wait to see what 4 more years provides for us Americans
I know a local kids event place at the mall family owned where the owner nets in after rent paying employees etc around 3500 a month
His full time employes range from 9-11$ an hour
You do the math now if he has 4 employees and now they’re getting paid 15$ minimum an hour
Well say an average of 10$ now 5$ Extra x 40 hours in a work week x 4 weeks in a month thats 3200 if you add all 4 employees
That leaves the owner now to make a net profit of around 300$ a month after bills and payroll
Do you think this one small business is any different or doesn’t run the same practice as a local family dollar (non corporate) a local GNC, the local car wash? Your local gym?
Guess what? I did payroll for a big gym here in Texas and understand how it works,
Do you think this guy is going to continue to work 50+ hours a week maintaining and making sure all the local kids are happy for 300$ a month? LOL

yes this is the bigger issue. and not just mom/pop shops. this will negatively impact businesses of 20, 50, 100 employees. this will impact hospitals, schools, gas stations, anything you can imagine.
it will also have a ripple effect on the quality of work. if you have 10 guys, but you have to cut two of them because you have to pay the other eight $15/hour, its not like the work load changes. so now the eight guys left have to somehow pickup the work of the other two guys that had to be cut.
do I think something needs to be done with the $7.25 it sits at today? yes. but is the answer more than doubling it? no. you also answered the real question which is - its the job of the states NOT the federal government to determine. $15/hour goes a lot further in north dakota than it does in california.Lets Go Brandon

Lol this fukn communist is the definition of stupid
13000 franchise McDonald’s
6000 Corporate in America
Those 13000 McDonald’s are typically owned by some kid who had it rough growing up and built a nobody into owning a local business to feed other poverty people in their local communities.
Read my above comment how mathematics work when coming to “payroll”
This does NOT include the soon to be lost truck driver assistants, packers, shippers etc who will no longer be employed to deliver food because of 15$ minimum wage

I guess the Dems are paying the Republicans back for Trump setting limits on the state tax write-off. That fukked over all the rich people living in HCOL areas. Time to fuk over the middle and lower class in "fly over states" I guess, gut businesses and kill jobs. You Dems think it's worth the gamble to get to socialism?

You get paid $16 an hour. Min wage is $7.25. You think your wage is going to go up $7.75 just because the govt decided to give a pay raise to high schoolers? No. Your employer will probably give you a buck more an hour if that, depends on how many other workers got a govt raise that they gotta account for now....

We don't really know if that will be in the bill or not. It seemed more like a wishlist item. If it does happen I think it would be terrible for helping the unemployment situation, but not as bad if it's phased in over more than 5 years.
Maybe they will settle somewhere in the middle if enough people disagree with it.

These servers will celebrate their $15 an hour and then somehow blame Trump when their five shifts a week gets cut to two.

If you went to school to learn a trade and you're only making $16/hour that's a problem. That's roughly $28k/year. Still poverty. That's what Trump tier people are really worried about. Some highschool bag boy making almost as much as they do. If you're making $16/hour maybe get yourself out of poverty before worrying about and chiting on someone that makes less than you.
