Is Arnold what Bruce Lee is to martial arts or Bob Marley is to reggae music ? For regular people he is probbably the most recognizable name in bodybuilding, but is he really the best ever ?
This might be a dumb question. but I really don't know if there is someone else who has been superior to him but without the movies and stuff.

Take away the "movies and stuff," and you still have a great bodybuilder (as opposed to a 'celebrity') with Arnold.
But The G.O.A.T? I don't know about that. IMO, there were a few guys who never even won a single Mr. Olympia who could seriously be considered as being better than Arnold, physique-wise. Kevin Levrone and Flex Wheeler come to mind immediately here.
Let the arguing begin! No brain, no gain.

I'm positive the Roman Empire started falling because of its overuse of abbreviations. It took me five or six views of this thread to decode what GOAT was.
I just saw another thread in another forum where a woman wrote she was recovering from ED. If I hadn't opened the thread, I'd never know she meant something other than Erectile Dysfunction.
I despise abbreviations."Blessed be the Lord my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle." - Psalm 144:1

Greatest of All Time and I am one that says yes to Arnold. If I had a 1/10th of his dedication, my waist would be 10" less and still the same strength level I'm at. He was 100% goal oriented and achieved all his goals. He was the best of his era and I think he would be the best now if he had the same "advantages" they have today. His drive would be matched only by probably Coleman. JMHO. TFW Marius can't figure out what tfw means

Damn straight Arnold is the GOAT of bodybuilding.
Why?
Charisma.
Other Mr.O's may be better bodybuilders but none of them has nor will drawn so many to bodybuilding as Arnold.
Imo, as Mr. Olympia part of that pay cheque is to represent bodybuilding and be its ambassador.
No one did it like him.
Ronnie Coleman, fantastic bodybuilder...way better than Arnold...and had some awesome catch phrases...but imo, this man barely speaks English.

Arnold would have never been "Arnold" without Joe Weider and Weider would not had been "Weider" without Arnold. The rest is history, as they say. I admire Arnold as a bodybuilder, although I don't think he deserved to win his last Mr. Olympia during his "comeback". I think the entire show was rigged and did more harm to the sport than good.
From a purely physical point of view, I much prefer bodybuilding physiques of the 1970s/1980s as opposed to the growth hormone injected guys we see today with the stomachs. Although, I wouldn't say Arnold had the best body of all time.
I think Frank Zane set the golden standard for bodybuilding...
