Semi agree, unless you're training for a sport, in which case go for it. And if you really want to, and nothing that we say can stop you, make sure to either talk to a coach/someone who know how to do them first, or spend a good 2 hours watching youtube vids. There's also an OLY lifting section on strongmen/powerlifting where you could ask about this.

They have no place in bodybuilding. Period. They don't have a place in powerlifting either. Unless you are Oly or think they are the best thing ever for Football then go for it. Although there is a lot of retarded bull about how it is an "Explosive" movement. BS, a deadlift will always be more explosive than a ****ing powerclean with 1/3 the weight, and a Low Bar squat will increase your hip and glute strength better than a powerclean every could.

Even then you'd be better off training for strength on the 4 main compounds instead of centering your training around cleans. I've never in my life seen a big guy power clean, nor have I ever seen one move decent weight on any of the 4 main compounds.

those who arent explosive don't understand explosive. The deadlift is good for explosive energy in your hips. the pclean is good for your whole upper body. powercleans give me so much shoulder strength and I don't even do them much. I don't do them much because they are complex motions and its easy to put to much weight on there when your not ready. and if you dont the weights that you can drop (and they bounce) you can imjure yourself, either by not dropping it when you reset or not being allowed to (cuz its metal) To OP: find someone who does them to check your form. not someone who says they do them, someone you know who does them and has a coach, wait until you do or you will hurt your back or something dood. honest

its a difficult one as the clean and jerk falls into alot of days i would go on back day as there is alot of core involved however there is also alot of shoulders involved so its up to you really try it both ways.

To the guys saying it has no place in bbing and its not explosive, im just wondering why olympic lifters have some of the best legs, and are some of the most powerful people around, of your talking max strength then yes deadlifts and squats as seperate lifts are far better but dont go saying that oly lifts are not explosive or powerful - power = speed / time sond there are some guys who can clean and jerk well over 200kg(440lb) so how can you tell me there is no strength either? Sorry i just hate close minded people who say a certain exercise has no place in another sport. / rant

to the op they will definatelly help improve your shoulder and leg strength if doing a full clean and jerk your core will also get a great workout, just be careful of joints.

If you have any questions about the lifts (c&j and snatch)PM me and we can chat

EDIT: just saw a guy say ask a guy who has done them not who says, i had a year of training with them as i have to do them for a college assesment, i done a competition and won so i have the experience to back it up.
