great shot, but i feel that whatever that darkness is going on at the top (and bottom corner) there is taking away a bit from the pic. could also use a tad more contrast. just a bit. not too much. a couple microns worth.

Thx -- I could try to resolve the shadows in the bottom corner with spot adjustments in CS6.
The top was a choice I made, using a grad ND filter (in post). Not sure if I like it more than the original or not... I was just at that point of losing the ability to really judge whether or not another change was good vs. bad, if you know what I mean, and just said enough was enough for now.All Hail the Ultimate Master, "I Know More Than The Generals Do", Donald Camacho Dr. Pepper X-Ray AR-15 Trump

I use one of these air blowers to dislodge the largest particles from the low-pass filter with the mirror locked up. The key is to do this with the camera facing down and use a torch to see what you're doing.
For smaller particles, no matter how well you manually clean the sensor they'll be back in no time so get used to quickly cloning out dust spots in post if you shoot at small apertures where they're visible (f/16~). Manually cleaning it with a swab can leave behind residue or even worse potentially scratch the surface so if your camera is still under warranty I think it's better to let Canon or Nikon do it for a small fee unless you're very comfortable with the process.
As for lenses and filters, I also use the blower to remove dust before using a microfiber cloth (best I've found so far is Leica's). If I'm working around salt water I'll always have a screw-in polarizer protecting the front element of the lens.

I haven't photographed anything recently, but re edited one I took at the start of the year. Uploaded it to 500px yesterday where people seemed to love it and got a rating of 90.2.

I like it!
Is that natty light on the foreground interest or did you put some sort of light on it? Is this the one you showed a couple of pages back where it's actually two shots you took @ different times and then spliced together? Maybe that wasn't you but I recall a similar shot where someone did that.*LF Chat Crew

Thanks man. Yep, I posted the process then the final image made into star trails. The foreground was taken after sunset and the sky was done a few hours later.
Appreciate it. I spent a little more time merging the images and tried making the stars 'pop'. Hopefully it worked!

Cheers. Usually I light up the foreground with either a speedlight or flashlight, but with this one I wasn't sure.
I don't know... maybe having the foreground lit up would make it look out of place or not natural? Probably should have tried both and decided which one I liked more.

Got this a few days ago, it's shot with a 200mm so lost some of the detail unfortunately as this is cropped in quite a lot. Still quite happy though

Very pretty bird there
Update on FB advertising: My ads have now "reached" 180,000 people, resulting in ~240 following my page (likes). Quite a ways to go before I get to Peter Lik status, lolz. (He has 40,000 likes).
Edit: this photo has received two requests for sales already though:

Hey bro's any recommendations for a good camera for a beginner? I'm trying to get away from the video games and wasting time on the internet and explore the more creative and artistic side of my brain, I figured photography would be a good hobby.

I would *almost* say start with your smartphone... but they lack some things that I would miss greatly, like thin depth of field, etc...
Depends on your goals and budget.
Do you want portable, or not?
Do you want to be able to take photos of fast-moving subjects?
Do you want to print, if so, how large?
etc, etcAll Hail the Ultimate Master, "I Know More Than The Generals Do", Donald Camacho Dr. Pepper X-Ray AR-15 Trump

hmm good points. I would like to be portable and take it around with me, while being able to take a picture of a fast moving object( I guess youre referring to cars, I see a lot of those pictures of cars while rolling) Print would be an afterthought but I would probably want it in the future if I really got into it

For Canon: T2i (can get real cheap and have more money for glass, while still having really good image quality) or t3i if you want something a fairly small step up. If i were to do it again i would have gone T2i + a nice piece of glass or two. I went the t3i route with a couple of kits.
