It was so fu*king pathetic. When I quit I told the hiring manager there is no way I can do this job, but wanted to let him know basically no hard feelings on the way out. I shook his hand and he thanked me and told me most people that work there dont even have the balls to formally tell people they're quitting...they just stop showing up. Legit felt bad for whole place.

It was the only job I really ever quit because I felt I hated it.

Goddamn same thing happened to me. I literally got up and walked out when I figured out what it was. I heard the guy say "Anyone else too SCARED to make money, like the poosy who just walked out?!? You can leave now!"

I’d sit there and make 120 calls per day while making 30k, no benefits while I was getting these guys quality meetings without ever seeing a cent in commission, I lasted 9 months before getting a real job.

Goddamn the fukkin balls on those guys lol. My very first job out of school was at a wealth management place. I stayed just long enough for them to pay for my series 6, 7, and 63. Total SCUMMAXXERS only in business because they occasionally tricked a naive rich guy into buying insanely high load mutual funds.

It was awful man. My official job title was “cold caller” but on my resume I put “business development associate.”

These “private wealth managers” are mostly morons who don’t know anything about finance. They have these unique strategies or “models” which is literally just some portfolio allocation the bank recommends. They’ll go to the banks recommended North American names and pick some stocks from that for their NA bucket and then go and buy some global equity or fixed income fund and then just follow the percentage break down between asset type based on the client kyc and what the bank tells them to do.

It’s such a fuken scam. But they’ll sell themselves as if they have this customized and tailored wealth plan and then throw a bunch of regulatory courses after their names and common plebs will eat it right up.

The most hilarious thing they do at least here in Canada at the private wealth arms of the big 5 Canadian banks is hire a bunch of young guys for the rookie program. Give insanely unattainable targets, so 10 million first year or you’re cut. So they sell the dream and you’ll have these young guys thinking they can build a private wealth practice via cold calling and getting family money etc. So 49/50 won’t hit that 10 mil but may get 3 or 4 million brought in or whatever. So they fire everyone who doesn’t hit target and then all the assets acquired (that 3 or 4 million 49 guys brought to the bank) are funnelled up to the corner office brokers.

That is almost exactly how it worked at this place, too. They had 2 rooms full of guys desperately cold calling with targets that they'd never, ever hit. Only the product was actually worse because they weren't even following the bank recommended basic allocation. They were just bundling the highest commission products into a giant pile of trash and trying to slather it in lipstick lol.

The owner had some fringe connections to the NFL and a couple dumb players gave him money. That was a major selling point, which was a huge red flag to anyone with a clue.
