How does that make you feel? The average American pays 50% in taxes or theft. If you're lucky, you only work from age 16-65. That's 49 years spent working. Since 50% gets stolen from you by Uncle Sam that essentially means 24.5 years of you working will be for nothing since you won't even get to keep a single penny. TWENTY-FOUR YEARS of your life will be spent getting up early in the morning, Monday-Friday, driving to work, stuck in traffic, working a job you hate. You will spend TWENTY-FOUR YEARS repeating this process over and over, and you won't even be able to reap the benefits of your sweat, tears and labor. THAT'S twenty-four years of your life GONE.
When you die, your assets, and whoever will be left to claim them, will be subjected to, yet again, 50% in taxes. That means in the end, 75% of of your total earnings throughout your life will be stolen and your children will only be left with a mere 25% of your labor. Essentialy, 36.75 years of YOUR labor goes down the drain, and your children only get to keep 12 years of what you worked for because some magical entity believes their entitled to it.
lol just lol @ taxing the dead. Government is scum of the earth. If you were to ever want to give money to your parents or children, you won't even be able to give them more than $14,500 without it being subjected to theft, aka the governments dirty hands. If you try to secretly give your children or parents that money, they'll be thrown in a cage if caught for not subjecting themselves to theft. Taxation is just the PC word/sugarcoated way of saying theft. This isn't civil. We do not live in a civilized society.
JUST REMEMBER FOR THE NEXT 24 YEARS OF YOUR LIFE THAT YOU SPEND BUSTING YOUR BALLS WAKING UP EARLY/TIRED, WILL BE ALL FOR NOTHING. REMEMBER THAT, EVERY SINGLE MORNING THAT YOU WAKE UP FOR THE NEXT 24 YEARS

The protection and comfort that living in America provides is worth it. Seriously.
And anyone that lol's at America's protection and comfort, pls go to a third world country where kids randomly get blown up playing cricket and no one even gives a fuk, where the moms of the deceased children go home and sleep on the floor in a mud hut after farming all day in 120* weather. lol.
America has a ton of faults, but living here is like winning the lottery at birth."If in my say 80 years on earth I do more help than damage, then I feel complete."

repped OP.
The 50% number is a bit off for most taxpaying citizens (which is only 40% of us workers, 60% pay negative net taxes), but the point remains the same. it's more like 20% net taxes (after government transfers) for that 40% of US workers. Still a large amounnt and added onto that comes double and triple taxation (cap gains, lol what a fuking joke), business income tax (are you chitting me!) etc etc
but who was SSI (which gives a 1% annualized return lmao...yet you pay much more than 1% into it), medicare/aid, state income tax, property tax, etc.
It's around or larger than 50% for the top 40% of us workers before taking into account government transfers received. Then it becomes around 15-23% net tax. and negative net tax for the bottom 60%

because the human race, evolved as we are, wouldn't be able to figure this out... lol
lmfao pathetic and cringe worthy post, giving up 24 years of your life is worth this? You say that as if the same protection and comfort could not be had without all this theft.
lmfao, it's just a small percentage of their stolen money being sent to them. it's meant to keep the idiots happy.

how much does the US spend on defence as a proportion of tax revenue?

How is it theft if the government gives you schooling, roads, public transportation, police & military protection, sanitation etc? I've never heard of a thief that robs you and then gives you a bunch of stuff in return.
Also, how would modern society function if we there were no taxes? Should we all just return to hunter gatherer times and hunt for food and build our own shelter so you don't have to pay any tax?
Inb4 miscers mention the glorious 50's as some golden age, even though taxes were astronomical compared to today.
