Looks like JJ Abrahams went right back to his "Lost" days of making a series from one episode to the next without ever bothering making a full story arc for the whole thing, and if one episode completely contradicts the one before... aw shucks, too bad.

Also lazy writing, lots of rehashing of the original trilogy, but badly done. If I want to see the original, I watch the original, I don't need his crappy reinterpretation. This one is a mishmash of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi with no drama and build up whatsoever. They wanted to redo the whole "Luke I'm your father" thing, and it was more of a "yo' I'm alive even though I was deader than dead, and guess what, I'm your gramps" "no chit. Anyway, what were we saying..."

One thing's for sure, from now on, encyclopedias will have a picture of Rey next to the expression "Mary Sue" (and now call me sexist because muh strong female lead).

I was hoping something better when I saw The Force Awakens, then it all went to chit with the 2nd. The 3rd tried to pick itself up from the pits the whole thing had fallen into, including bringing back geriatric original characters, but as the saying goes, you can't polish a turd. Glad this whole debacle is over. Makes "Rogue One" and "The Mandalorian" look like masterpieces in comparison.
They should have left it alone with the original trilogy. I remember how enthralled I was seeing the original in a theater that I blew out out my meager savings to watch it 6 more times. Jedi and Strikes Back weren't as amazing but still better than anything since. I watched some of the one with "Jar Jar Binks" and haven't watched any since.

Same here, for me the original A New Hope is the definitive Star Wars, the rest some are better than others but meh. Rogue One was watchable, and The Mandalorian is fun, but the actual Star Wars movies, the prequels and then these latest sequels have been painful. The prequels were Lucas getting lost in the CG candy store, and the sequels were just

I was in junior high when Star Wars came out and I loved that movie as well as Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, since then I have been waiting and hoping that one of these would recapture that magic but it never happened. The 3 prequels I despise and these latest versions have been nothing but rehashes of the original with one after another Death Star and it's eventual demise. Rogue One was actually pretty good but ultimately a real downer due to the ending which to be fair is the only fair way it could have ended. That Han Solo movie was garbage from beginning to end and not worth discussing. I want new and exciting and refreshing, it's one of the reasons I really enjoy the Amazon Prime series "The Boys" because it's so different and so damn fukked up that it keeps you interested.

    The Reliant

On Netflix. Pretty confusing all the way through. At first it's like Red Dawn with some unnamed domestic threat, lots of gun battles and entertaining. Ultimately it morphs into an agenda driven story on why the Bible says you need guns, really did not see that coming at all. Watch it if you want but I think actual doomsday preppers and gun nuts will find it pretty laughable.

My teenagers wanted to watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off, so we watched it with them. I remember it being a cute, funny movie. Now that I'm old, I kinda hated it and noticed two things:
    - There's a whole lot of unnecessary obscenity
    - Bueller is a real dick.

Man the language in that movie is pretty tame by today's standards. He's more of hustler in the era the movie was made, that's what made it a hit "he was getting one over on the Man." All he was guilty of was skipping a day of school, OH YEAH...

Actually came in to post about "Uncut Gems." Couldn't find an earlier review to quote via OP's rules, so sorry OP, I will take your negs.

I actually thought the story was engaging and exciting if you cut like 45 minutes off. Adam Sandler can act, and certainly shouldn't be typcast, but this was really not a role I want to see him in. He's continually getting beat up, running from people, getting Cuckolded, ignoring his kids and has a gambling problem. That's a Bruce Willis, Michael Keaton, Will Smith, or Mark Wahlburg role, and they will win in the end.

He's got the skills and talent to turn himself into one of these if he wants, but he gonna need to pump some iron.

Me too. We never saw "first run" movies, and I remember the Star Wars advertisements in the paper: "now on it's 50th week" or some such thing. Dad finally broke down and took us and paid the $2 premium or whatever it was back then instead of waiting for it to get moved to our typical theater. I remember being blown away by the special effects

Agreed. We rented it from Red Box and I bailed after about 30 minutes or so, but Sandler was definitely NOT the typical Sandler character. He was believable but just not a character that I wanted to invest another 90 minutes to watch.

I was living in a Christian Community, it was literally called "the community." We had Elders, any of the older Males could spank us, we weren't allowed to get out much. When the Head of household deemed that "the force" was God, we were allowed to watch.

Probably sounds a little kooky but when I got home from intramural sports I had a Mom with a plate of hot foot in the oven, a college aged Mom to help me with my homework and my real Mom who was just trying not to get caught smoking or drinking.

I despised Uncut Gems, every character was a despicable piece of garbage and with all the yelling it was not a fun movie to watch and we saw it in the theater where probably 5-6 people walked out. I cheered inside when he got popped in the end because he was so miserable and made me miserable watching it.

    .

Glad I didn't pay to see that POS.

Chilly weekend so caught a couple flicks.

    "Da 5 Bloods"

2020 Spike Lee film, the action, story and violence were all pretty top notch. He mixed in some #BLM stuff somewhat effectively, but I'm not sure he mixed entertainment with current events as well as he did with "Do The Right Thing." It's entertaining and worth 3 hours of your time.

    Men of Honor

Older movie, actually watched on regular TV, pretty sure I have mesotheliaoma and need an oxygen respirator according to the commercials. Just a gritty (NAVY) Military movie with Gooding and DeNiro delivering outstanding performances. Not sure how I have never seen this, but another great waste of time to watch.

The Last Days of American Crime on Netflix, the trailers are better than the movie but it wasn't a bad watch. Was a bit disconcerting watching the public attack the police and it was actually much tamer compared to whats going in real life right now.

The movie revolves around a program the government is initiating by sending out a signal that will affect peoples brains and will not allow them to commit acts they know are illegal, a small group wants to pull off 1 last heist before this signal goes live and will give them a legacy. There are a number of gaping plot holes and a few of the characters are disgusting pigs that cannot be killed soon enough. It's entertaining but nothing I would watch a 2nd time.

I saw that one but the premise/story line did not interest me so I passed it up.

BUT....I did make up for it last night while cruising Netflix.
It's been hot here and I decided to try Bushwick with Dave Bautista....you know...figured he'd be throwing bad guys out windows and the like.

Holy shvt...what dumb, pointless, tedious movie with an unsatisfying ending.
So....I would NOT recommend this one under any circumstances.

    The Guest

On Netflix, surprisingly good. I like a flick where you don't know what's coming next and this fits the bill. It's about a soldier that goes to visit his fallen wartime friend's family and gets a little too comfortable with them. Lead actor does a great job.

Only really annoying thing is when they switch scenes and do the dark music thing that was done so well in The Shining, doesn't add much to this film and was a mistake. I kinda think this must have been from a novel because the huge plot holes in Netflix original films aren't there.

Plenty of blood & bullets + pretty Damsel in distress. Worth a watch.

Thumbs down Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga - On Netflix

Do not watch, total waste of time. Can't believe Will Ferrell agreed to do this. I can get behind some slow moving comedy but this delivers no laughs at all. Just a big fat flop.

    Thumbs up I am Mother

I was certain I reviewed this, but after utilizing the excellent forum search tool here I could not find it. My 2nd watch was even better, this is brilliant.

Apocalyptic man vs. robot story, does not follow any of the usual conventions, very Ray Bradberryesque, if you read or have read sci fi and end enjoy man vs. AI stuff, this is a winner.

    Highly recommend.

Tried to watch a 2006 movie The Fountain with Hugh Jackman, this has to easily be one of the worst movies of all time and gave up after about 30 minutes or so. Its supposed to be 3 intertwined stories of a time traveler and it's all about love supposedly. Well it's pretty much incomprehensible and just flat out dull. If you are having a hard time sleeping then look this doozy up.

Overlord a 2018 film about WW2 and the Nazi's search for the perfect soldier is a pretty different take on this topic, it's gruesome at times but it does hold your interest

    A Bridge Too Far

Classic flick, on Netflix, HUGE starpower for the Era, Michael Kane, Robert Redford, Anthony Hopkins, Sean Connery, James Caan and another half dozen recognizable names. It's a 1977 film and almost 3 hours long, so it's a commitment. That said, I couldn't believe the cinematography. There's about a 7 minute scene in the middle of the movie showing a huge WWII air drop. They show it from loading the planes, to jumping off, to floating to landing and disconnecting from your chute while being shot at. Scene is shot from the plane, from the ground and from the Paratroopers experience.

Clearly the Directors of Saving Private Ryan and similar films pulled heavily from this, but they honestly didn't improve on it much, it's a damn good war flick.

Scratching my head at what I didn't like or what should have been cut to make it a shorter experience, but it was really worth the 3 hours I watched.

Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

Watched the latest Terminator, completely forgettable. Super soldier from the future to fight the terminator is a 80lbs girl. The terminator is a dead lump, no character or screen presence. New terminator features are a yawn. Old Arnie didn't add anything to the movie. For me the franchise still ends at film number 2; that was the mother of all mind blowing movies.

It was a horrid wretched waste of time, Linda Hamilton was so damn wooden in it and the storyline itself just flat out sucked.

Wish Hollywood would end the greats in a timely fashion and the studios didn't try to milk a few more million off of a dead horse, tired actors and stories. I think they're all just remembering Rocky, which actually got better and better until it jumped the shark. Maybe the magic number is 3. I know it's not whatever Star Wars is up to.

I hate how they squeeze every cent out of franchises until they are dry shriveled lumps of nothing. They have bungholed pretty much every one of my beloved movies. Alien, Terminator, Indiana Jones (the 3rd was awesome, 4th was criminally bad), Star Wars... If it's not a sequel it's a prequel, if not a prequel a reboot, if not a reboot a spinoff. Each must be done cheaper than the previous. Just throw chit CGI at it, that'll fix it!
