The following is my opinion.
In the past,
Americans going to Sunday church every day were taught the teachings of Jesus, such as :
"Love thy neighbor."
"Forgive seventy times seventy. Don't hold grudges. Forgive those who offend you."
1900 :
Person A : "Hey, this is my opinion XYZ."
Christian : "Well, I don't agree with you, but that's okay. I'm not mad at you."
2019 :
Person A : "Hey, this is my opinion XYZ."
Liberal : "OMFG WHAT DID YOU SAY, YOU ARE HITLER, I AM SO OFFENDED, YOU NEED TO BE FIRED. YOUR LIFE SHOULD BE DESTROYED. I HATE YOU."
Decline in Christianity = crappy quality citizenry.
Tell me I'm wrong.

The rise of "I'm offended" culture is directly related to rise in atheism.

People that are heavily into religion are the most judgmental people of all. These are the people who were offended by Elvis Presley and his "devil music" and Playboy magazine with its "pornography".
They just don't seem to have a loud voice anymore.Calls 'em like I sees 'em Crew

The fedora lords of the 00s were useful idiots for seeding the agenda of the left, they had to check their privilege and stop attacking Islam like the cowardly Dawkins and his disciples, but at the end of the day they will always be yt male incels and never accepted by the modern left they helped usher in.

Sometimes. But they can also be the most forgiving just like OP said.
Some of them are amazingly forgiving and understanding.
I wonder if there's maybe an age when people begin to relax more and have an increased sense of the various troubles people go through.
I bet that is partially why you're supposed to be 35 for president srs.EX IGNORANTIA AD SAPIENTIAM

This. Repped.
And, just like any group.... we have bad apples that do not represent well.
Some people claim Christianity.... and then do the opposite of the teachings of Jesus.... classic example is the Westboro baptists. Imagine some poor kid growing up in that environment... they'd think Christians are crazy and hateful beings.
If someone is going to criticize Christianity, criticize the actual teachings of Jesus. Not the bad apples giving it a bad name."Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me." - Psalm 23

No, because I do not believe in legislating Christianity on others.
God gave us free will to choose. Why would I take that away from you by force?
So, I would not "ban" anything legally, but I would certainly criticize it and hope people choose against it. Which, unfortunately, is hard.. because so many people fall prey to their base desires (lust, greed, pride, etc)"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me." - Psalm 23

I think the entire premise is wrong and there isn't really a connection between a decline in Christianity and a rise in people being intolerant of dissenting opinions. It's not surprising seeing the poisonous discourse and leadership in the United States.
You don't need to go to church or be a Christian to learn to have respect for others and the benefits of forgiveness. In fact I think people do well without it and most of the time it's the religious people who are the most judgmental.
Christianity is dying because it's a false religion and gives no tangible and substantial benefits in regards to reality that you couldn't attain elsewhere. It's mostly just a comforting tool and defense mechanism for people who are scared. It is like all fake religions that when brought to the table and thoroughly examined by the entire world gets exposed as a primitive belief system.
