Pls explain puts to me

You use options contracts (they exist as puts and calls) to trade an underlying security. Puts are bought outright when you believe the stock will decline, calls when you think it'll rise. Each contract is worth 100 shares, but the value of it can range from $0.00 to no limit. Options also expire so if you think the stock will be below $40 by March 1, you will buy a $35 put. It's January and the stock is currently trading at $44 and that put is most likely worth $0.20. Since there's 100 shares, you will have to pay $20 ($0.20 x 100) to purchase a single contract. If by March 1 it is not below $35, that put will be worth $0.00. If the stock is $34, it'll be worth $1.00 (or 100 x $1.00 so $100).

as far as individual stocks go...im thinking to go with more growth stocks instead of dividend investing. Thoughts on Microsoft? or other growth stocks leading into 2020?

Microsoft is one of the most solid tech stocks imo. They are pretty well set for the future with their cloud stuff. You might not get the crazy gains of others, but it goes up rather steadily.

Honestly, you’re getting a lot of msft exposure in spy. If I’m buying individual stocks, I try to not buy any that are spy’s top 10 holdings.

Yes puts are extremely reckless in a bull market. These puts will most likely expire worthless, but can pay off big if I get lucky. I dont invest, I just gamble and speculate, but in a way puts are safer than shorting since I can only loose my original investment.

Nah puts are priced based on expected volatility basically so puts for volatile stocks will go for much higher premiums. When im speculating on the market as a whole ill either play options on SPY or SPX since they are very liquid. Options on individual stocks are much less liquid so u can get rekted on the bid/ask spread if you need to enter or exit a position quickly.

The economy is great. The Fed has been pouring all these billions into the REPO market to keep short term interest rates from rising. There's no reason for them to "stimulate" our markets since the unemployment rate hasn't been this low since the 1960s!! I think we should also focus in on negative interest rates in Europe. The Euro is absolutely hated by the central banks all over because they feel like they're paying a tax just for holding it in their reserves. The giant experiement that has been QE and zero to negative interest rates has destroyed the bond markets in Europe and everywhere else it's been tried and thus our Fed has been forced to interject in the REPO market and attempt to stave off the coming crisis.
TL;DR: Rising rates will blow up the global economy. The Fed has been attempting to stop short term rates from rising but that's just going against the free market which means that eventually, rates will spike and chit will blow up on a global scale.
