Damn. I wonder if Rep has huge mark ups on their products, or if their supply model is broken.

In my experience Rep’s quality control is worse than Rogue, but their customer support is better than Rogue.

$75 shipping if you include a rack is amazing.

You can always get shorter crossmembers (ex. 30” instead of 43” for inside rack depth) if you want a smaller footprint. When I ordered by RM-6 years ago I requested 30” crossmembers and I later got 15” crossmember made for the storage area so it was only 54” long total. Later I added 2 more uprights and Rep 16” crossmembers and I was still under the standard RM-6 length (73” vs. 76”).

Decided to convert my RML-490 to a six post rack but as I've mentioned before I hate the 24" crossmembers Rogue uses so I ordered the 17" ones that come with their newer half rack. Only issue is those are not powder coat black and only offered in medium gloss black. I don't really care because I'm not trying to win a best looking gym competition and it's easier than getting the others cut. $485 before shipping and tax, not bad considering the price difference between the RML-490 and 690 is $630.

They won’t custom color them for an up charge?

They said that they only come in that color currently and left it at that. I didn't push the issue because it's not a big deal to me.

Same for me. They did special orders pre COVID-19, but they are way too swamped now, plus this gloss black 17" crossmember is now a regularly manufactured item. When they were doing 17" perforated cross-members from scratch, it was no issue to paint it whatever color the customer wanted.

New Rogue non deep dish made in the USA plates just dropped. Pretty pricey but I'm sure it will fill a niche for people. Unless I was getting a rack or something that made shipping essentially free for plates I'd rather have StrengthCo if looking for US made, non-deep dish plates. These look like they'd be annoying to grip.

It appears that my 10 lb change plates from the DD set I got recently look very similar, if not the same...I'm wagering to bet that the 5s and 10s in the DD set are the same as in the non DD set which would explain why when I asked if the DD plates would get 2.5 lb plates to complete the set a Rogue representative said they were unsure at the time, but to check back on their site.

Another observation is that the 25s on the DD set even though they have a shallower lip, are different compared to the stock photos of the non-DD set which are not surprisingly thinner, so I'm thinking it's another shared change plate set similar to the 6 Shooter and Rogue's silver olympic plates change sets, but made in the USA version.

I'm not a big fan of the shallow lip style, but agree that if going with that style I would choose Strength Co plates.

Yuk. Gripping would be very annoying. Almost 30 years a ago I dropped a York Legacy off a bench press and broke my toe. Slipped right out of my hand. I also recall deadlifting, if those plates ended up facedown, you could not pick them up. Some time after that, the gym went to all new Ivanko plates. Much easier to grip. Still could not pick them up if facedown. When I started my home gym 25 years ago, it was handle plates. Best thing ever. They don't slip out of your hand, and you can pick them up from either side with ease. I would never buy any plates without handles ever again.

I agree. In the late nineties I had a full set of Cap Barbell plates that were very thin and didn't have much of a lip. They weren't the easiest to move around, and like you said, if they were face down on the floor they were a nightmare to pick up, and they had more "grip" than these appear to have. While US-made plates are nice, I'm not sure difficult to handle plates at $2.38-$4/lb are worth it (my Caps were $0.30/lb new regardless of plate size, and were even machined).

Preach brotha. Totally agree. These Rogue plates are neat, and I dig that they're made in the USA, but man they don't look fun/practical to use day in and day out. Easy pass for me.

I recently added some Strength Co. plates - very nicely manufactured and finished U.S. made, old-school plates. Saw Rogue announced their U.S. made plates and was worried I might have almost immediate buyers remorse. Looked at pics and specs of Rogue plates, and had no doubt Strength Co. is still best U.S. option.

I was used to grip plates (Intek and York Iso), so it took a little getting accustomed to lifting, and loading/unloading the thinner, non-grip plates. You have to pay a little more attention ensuring a firm grip on the 45s. That's with the much wider and deeper lip on the Strength Co. plates (Strength Co. 45s = 40% wider - 1.25" thick, VS Rogue .89" thick). The 40% additional width helps provide a rim that is more easily/securely graspable. The 1.25" width of the Strength Co. plates is already pretty thin compared to most plates. Rogue's getting into IPF calibrated plate thinness with these new U.S. plates (pretty much same thickness as a Rogue calibrated 20 KG plate, but the calibrated plate has a thicker rim for a more secure grip).

Rogue plates look nice, but seem not very user friendly/safe. Rogue should partner up with shoe manufacturer(s) (Nike, Reebok, No Bull) and come out with steel-toed/armored training shoe as a recommended/required accessory.

Agree with you on the Strength co vs. Rogue for these plates. To me the Rogue DD are pretty similar to Strength and Rogue's are cheaper when looking at it with their hundo pricing. I live in GA and on the fence about driving 4 hours round trip to pick up some strength co at some point. These new plates I am sure will sell well like most Rogue's stuff.

17" RML-690 is ready to go. The color difference with the crossmember is hardly noticeable, especially with how dark my gym is typically. Very satisfied with this.

Glad to hear that, makes me optimistic about my rack. Strange that they do the ML Half Rack in gloss, yet the included attachments (pull up bar, weight pegs, optional safeties) are all powdercoat.

Your RML-690 is a much more efficient design, and honestly it should be the stock set-up. Love what you got going on there.

Anyone here own a SM-1 as their main rack? I was thinking about maybe the RM4 but I have zero interest in attachments outside of the monolift. I saw a guy on YT using the SM1 as his main rack and was squatting 550+ so that gave me confidence it would be a good main rack. I know the SML exists but the Monster cups and arms are so much nicer and have UWHM on the inside to protect the posts. Also, not interested in doing pull ups either so thats why im leaning with the simpler set up.

I got started 2 weeks ago but I am a proper Rogue Shill:
    -700lb of Deep Dish Plates
    -Ohio Cerakote Bar
-a few OSO collars (extras for the chains)
-Horizontal V3 organizer (it is SUPER NICE)
    -Wall Organizer
    -accessories, like belts, wraps, etc

I don't know why I waited this long to start building my gym. At the moment the only thing left is to decide what rack to get.

As I explained above, I am leaning towards something simpler like the SM1. Even though the SM1 is the same footprint as a rack, SM1 wouldn't look that big once I bring my gym into my office when compared to an RM4 with 4 posts and 90" in height.

Right now I am in the garage and once summer comes, I want to be inside. Money is not the issue, I just don't need extra stuff since I only like to bench, squat, deadlift, barbell curl, etc basically I am a simple man who only needs and wants a bar to work out.

    Cheers

If you're trying to minimize floor space. Wouldn't something with a half rack conversion make more sense, as it'll takeup plate storage duties without taking up more floor space?

Got myself a 3x3 strip, matador, jammer pull up, bands and an organizer to go with my PB USA elite db. Love rogue and glad I am getting back to some lifting. My ab 3.0 arrives this week and only 20 days since ordering.

I have room for a power rack but getting the bodyweight and db exercises going before going down that route again.

My Echo bike is developing a squeak when the pedals pass a certain position. Anyone else run into this and figure out what's happening? Taking the plastic cover off didn't show anything obvious rubbing. I'll give Rogue a call this week too.

New Ohio Power Bar with different "more aggressive" knurl patterns was released yesterday.

    https://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-4...ower-bar-aggro

I went ahead and ordered a 3x version as that's been the knurl style (mountain) that I've preferred (similar to Kabuki power bar and vulcan stainless power bar). I think it's going to feel much better than the original OPB knurl, which always had a very abrasive feel to it, IMO. We'll see! Cool all stainless bar, besides the high price! Lol

I am wondering if they'll release this for the Ohio DL bar. Not sure I'd be able to justify the price, but it would still be cool to feel the knurl and see if it grips in my hands any better than the original.

I've always said, the deep volcano style cut that Rogue uses cause more sharp edges than one sharp point would create, so even though the knurl pattern itself doesn't feel very aggressive, all those edges are tearing into your skin, and it's why I prefer knurl pattern of TPB, Kabuki, and the REP PB EX. That said, I have no issues with my SS OPB and it's essentially my daily driver of the three and I don't see myself looking to get one of these new Aggro bars, but I'm definitely curious to see one and give it try.

I haven't used a Rogue bar yet and was really tempted to get that 2x aggro version but I have no complaints with my Rep PowerSpeed in stainless, so it's hard to justify buying another 29mm bar just out of curiosity, especially for several hundred bucks. At best, the knurl will probably be similar to Rep. At worst, I'll want to sell it.

Started the process of going 'Made in USA' this week, not to get too political but I'm dumping all my Chinese made equipment so the REP EX bar is getting replaced (Buddy Capps) and I'm selling my Equalizers for Rogue's deep dish plates. 700lbs on the way, got a pair of hundos while I was at it!!!
