    Basketball Court Install

After years of waiting we have finally decided to go ahead and add a major new pieces to our home a backyard basketball court.

Yesterday they came to grade the area and form it out. Court is a 30' x 30',

Today they got it poured and broom finished, 15 yards of concrete with fiber,
    https://imgur.com/a/C6utPSl

They will be back Saturday to remove forms and back fill around above grade sides of pad.

Next on the list is a diy retaining wall down the sides that are below grade. End up being 40' long x 1' high retaining wall. While doing that we will also pour the 12" x 12" x 3' deep pad for the hoop anchor. Once its had a week to cure we will start on hoop install.

Nice! We put one in 2.5 years ago. Turned out to be one of our best investments ever, especially once COVID hit. Hours of priceless outside entertainment with the family.

Looking forward to the finished pics.

Lots of tennis courts within certain zip codes in this town....and pools are a given. You might see a hoop off to the side of a tennis court but a dedicated BB court is more rare.

Great you have the space, yes looking forward to seeing the finished product.

We live in a very small/rural town, not even 400 people in the whole town. We don't have a single store let alone any kind of sports fields or courts so really only option we had to not have to drive 30 mins to play. Same reason we built our home gym.

Great project! We put a very similar court in a few months ago. I was planning on painting on the standard free throw, three point line, etc, but a couple of are teens are lining courts as a small side business. $125 and our court ls lined. Really makes for a great space to shoot!

On the list of things to do this summer once its warmer. Something like this but with a different logo,

Right now trying to decide if a 60" backboard is worth the extra cost vs a 54"?

That looks like fairly soft ground. How do you prevent that slab from sinking, tilting, cracking etc?

Man, this is an exciting project!
I've been thinking about getting a basketball goal again, so this might push me over the edge. What goal do you have in mind?
Also, this might be a minor thing, but what basketball(s) will you be getting? I haven't kept up with quality street balls.

For a goal I'm planning to go with mega slam, either their 54" or 60". Haven't decided yet which size leaning towards the 60" with over hoop led light and collegiate rim.

For basketballs I got just some cheaper ones for the kids, I got myself this one, time will tell how well it holds up, (Wilson evolution is a great ball too but not the most durable for outdoor use)

Has gravel under pad, fiber in pad to help with not cracking but always a chance concrete will crack.

Good call. I never played at any level except at the park with friends. I have a 32×32 court with regulation lines painted and all, came with the house. Not a basketball fan but it gives me something to do in the back yard.

Good investment for enjoying a leisurely shoot-around with the kids. Great investment for serious players trying to get into high school or college teams

Good call. I went through a similar decision building ours. No regrets on going with the bigger backboard 2+ years later.

We have a sports court and I suggest looking into pickleball- its a compact sport so it should fit and its a ton of fun for our family and friends.

Played for the first time a couple of years ago. Like mini tennis. Great game and family fun. I second this suggestion.

Picked up material today to start on a knee wall tomorrow. Got the corner of it laid out tonight and will start mortaring it together in the morning. Going to run a single row of block the rest of the way down the side that's below grade.

One more block to do once he removes the forms tomorrow and that part is done. Then have to start leveling off a few feet of the ground on the other three sides so no one gets hurt if the run/fall off court.

Court shipped today should be here Friday. Should be able to pour concrete for anchor next weekend then just wait a few days for it to cure then time to assemble.

Have 40 tons of dirt scheduled for delivery end of next week to level out a few feet of ground around edges of pad.

Hoop delivery got delayed til Tuesday and weather took a turn for the worse so I think this project is now on hold til spring unless we get a randomly warm weekend before then. Don't want to pour hoop anchor concrete in below freezing temperatures. I'll still have them come dump and spread dirt around pad next week. Then just up to the forecast when it gets finished.

It has arrived, megaslam 60" hoop! Thing is a beast weighs over 600lbs, 1/2" thick glass backboard, 6x6 main post. Now we just need a warm weekend to concrete the anchor into the ground!

I highly recommend a chain net it’ll save a lot of running for balls.

I've got one. It's where my kids learned how to ride their bikes. We spend most summer evenings out there playing.

Have a knee wall/bench on one side of pad and going to fence behind hoop and down other side of pad should keep ball and kids contained.
